View Full Version : Extra credit -- Lesson One

Romani Vixen

Now that we've learned basic correspondinces for color... why don't we expand a little. Part of the assignment was to pick three colors and write out correspondinces. As extra credit, choose other colors, any that you can think of, and post correspondences for those here. We're looking for each students personal observations and feelings on these colors.

If you follow a particular pantheon, post what colors your Gods are partial to.

This is extra credit, so don't feel obligated to do this, but it's fun none-the-less! :)

Light blue: calm, flying, sky, relaxing
When I think of light blue I think of a light blue sky and it's relaxing, calming and also makes you want to fly.

Green: money, luck, earth, nurturing, life
For green I think of money and also luck because a 4 leaf clover is green.

Brown: earth, nurturing, warmth

Dark Blue: night, safety, protection

White: pure, clean, good

Good job... I like the four leaf clover correlation!

red Strenght, Courage, Love, Passion, Power and obviously the Fire element
green Nature, Wealth, Peace, the color of the earth element.
yellow Jalousy, Friendship, Happyness, Joy.p

Brown Determination, Inner strength
purple Secrets, Mystery, Silence, Rest, Wisdom
Blue Clarity, Intelligence, Force, Power (I think of force and power because water has the power to even destroy rocks in time)
white Clean, health, balance

I probably going in the wrong direction here but we have some color correspondences that we use in everyday life that don't seem to be coming up here

Red-anger as in "I was so angry I could see red"
Green-envy "I was green with envy"
Pink-wellness "I'm in the Pink of Health"
Blue-Depressed "I'm so blue"

There are more, but my poor old mind can't get around them right now. I actually think that the correspondences would be good in a banishing spell. One would feel the anger, envy, depression or ill health leave as the candle burned. did a dusting meditation on this while I straightened my livingroom.

Black: New beginnings, energy absorption, the unknown, driving away the negative.

PinkLove, friendship, celebration, happiness.

Gray Neutrality, gloominess (Overcast Days).

Gold Sun energy, The God, wealth, luck.

Blue: Peaceful, cool, freedom
Gold: Enticing – the suggestion that there is more to follow; high profile – attracting attention.
Yellow: Angry, pushy, bold - as well as the notion of the sunny aspects. I do confess the negatives come from my personal reactions to this colour - it isn't one of my favourites. (Sorry!!)
Pink - light, fluffy, innocent

Bix

Black
Banishing, void, modernism, the unknown, opposite of white

Green
Earth element, growth, stableness, protection,

White
bringing together, void, cleanliness, unknown, opposite of black

Bix... isn't it interesting that we think of black and white as opposites, yet they're so similar?

Ok well in the actual lesson I did this anyways, I added my own Goddesses from the celtic pantheon because you were asking us to feel from the candles and note what we were feeling, so that is what I did.

So do I have to do this again? for diferent candle colors?

Thanks in advance

You don't have to do it if you don't want to. But more colors would be appropriate. Or elements. Or herbs (we will be covering herbs and oils later). You can also do reverse... healing... peace...

Yep! White and black seem very similiar to me, but black seems to banish things, and white seems to draw them inwards.

Well I use gold for the God, and silver for the Goddess. However, i was recently told not to do that, but no explanation was given for the admonishment. So, of course, the little rebel that I am, I just use them anyway. Can you tell me what would be the reason not to. I worship the God as the Sun and the Goddess as the Moon, and I can't think of any colors that would be more appropriate. I guess yellow and white, but HOW DULL. We Leos like flash.

I use black for the Goddess. think of the Yin/Yang symbol. White is male.. black is female. One of my goddesses is Nox... goddess of the night, darkness, sleep, and death amongst others. She is amongst the oldest of the Gods.

It's really a personal thing. Each person should meditate on it and choose what fits their path the best.

I think gold and silver are fine if you worship this way. You could use other colors perhaps if you call upon specific gods/goddesses. I would use red or gold to symbolize Freya since she is my patroness.

I'm not sure why I use the colours I do for my dieties, I just go with whatever feels right at the time. But ... for the sake of a colour I'll say what's on my altar at the moment.

I've an orange candle for the goddess and a green one for the god (plus a white one in the middle for me). I thought it interesting that you mentioned that orange is the colour of Brigid though and that it's a Gemini colour. I'm Gemini and I've recently been reading more about Brigid. May be just coincidence though.

I do a lot of herbal healing and I suppose that's where green comes from for the God. Fertility has been strong in my mind (not that I want any more children) but I'm getting to the age where soon I won't have the option. Maybe that's why I thought of green, for fertility.

It's amazing what you do on instinct alone really.

Here are my correspondences and why I link them with a god/ddess
Green
Elemental earth and elemental water. Nature and fertility deities, Mother goddesses. Nature, fertility, growth, rejuvenation, recovery, healing, harvest and abundance, prosperity, harmony, balance, peace, hope, home, plants and animals.Pan,Faunus,Cernunnos.

Blue
Elemental water and elemental air. Deities of the sea and sky, truth and wisdom. Peace and tranquility, calmness, truth, wisdom, justice, counsel, guidance, understanding and patience, loyalty and honor, sincerity, devotion, healing, femininity, prophetic dreams, protection during sleep, astral projection.
I am not really drawn to a god of the sea, though I was born under the sign of Pisces and Neptune is a sea god as is Mannanan MacLyr and Poseidon and Njord.

Silver
Moon-goddesses, female energy, cycles, rebirth, reincarnation, healing of hormonal imbalances, emotional stability, remove or neutralize negativity, intuition, dreams, psychic abilities and psychic workings.Diana,Artemis,Caridwen.

Ok so I decided to add more info, so here goes

Green candle for luck in her assignment or homework.
Bamboo is also used for luck, and drinking orange tea will help with luck also. A taurus candle/color. Other qualities of green are finances, money, fertility, prosperity, growth, luck and employment.

Peppermint tea will help with her cold, also adding some peppermint or any mentha oil to a tissue and then inhaling will clear her stuffy nose.

Light a yellow candle to help her study, this is an air symbol and is asosciated with Gemini and also intellect, attraction, study, persuasion, confidence and divination.

The Goddess I would recommend her to call upon is Brigit because she is called upon for learning and healing. and is asosciated with the color green.

There you have it

White to me symbolizes death or emptiness.
Lavender - calm, tranquility, and peacefulness.
red - blood, pain.
black - depression, unhappiness, shadows.

Here's what I've come up with so far:

Green- Prosperity, luck, money, nature based workings.
Pink- Love, gentleness, a muted form of Red…useful if wanting a more gentle energy
Brown- Nature
Black and Dark Blue- Hekate, divination
Yellow- Sun, spring, light, cheerful, healing
Purple- Regal, useful to draw that quality to self, psychic development and divination
Orange- Energy and vitality

Well I use gold for the God, and silver for the Goddess. However, i was recently told not to do that, but no explanation was given for the admonishment. So, of course, the little rebel that I am, I just use them anyway. Can you tell me what would be the reason not to. I'd be curious to find out as well for I use the same. Always have...to me it's what resonated. Anyone with any idea why not to use gold for the God and Sliver for Goddess?

Bix... isn't it interesting that we think of black and white as opposites, yet they're so similar?
And the same could be said of people! Inside similarities masked by outside reflection! Sorry, I'm getting off topic...
Here are some more color observations for me:

Black Makes me think of being veiled in mystery; concealing
Brown Makes me think of trees, the forest, wood, Feels comfortable...woodlandy, downright elvish
Gray Can make me feel cold, if it is the gray steel color, but if it leans toward a silver sparkle...makes me feel *special*
Yellow Makes me a little too excited...I feel ungrounded when I see too much yellow, like a loose anchor, but in small amounts as accents, it makes me feel cheery
