Do you guys have a mentor or a hero?

My hero is most definitely Jeff Corwin. He's got the job I want and the education I want. He's out there in close contact with animals and making a difference. He inspires me to continue learning. What about you guys?

Yes, they are, sorry if it seems like I am using them interchangeably, that's my fault, I'm highly medicated for the flu right now! I put both up because some people like myself have a hero, but others may not necessarily have a hero, but a mentor, someone they look up to and have a personal relationship with. Sorry if I confused anyone.

OK :) no problem
i have no heroes.
i do have someone i think of as a mentor though. Years ago, he was my religions teacher in high school ( and supported my study of paganism). now, he is retired, and i'm finishing University, and we are still close friends.

I don't have a mentor that immediately comes to mind, or a hero. I always feel so bad because there isn't someone special in my life that I look up to. :(

Though there have been some teachers who've done me a lot of good. My fifth a seventh grade teachers both meant a lot to me.

I'm still thinking about the mentor thing, I think I might have one, but I'm not sure. I respect him, his intelligence, and his achievements, and he helps me with so much, but I developed a crush on him, silly me, and am currently letting those feeling subside, so I am avoiding him. Sigh....

I hate it when that happens. When you start liking someone and you can't really help it. *sigh* Good luck with that!

But to seriously answer that question. No I don't.

I really look up to my mom, as cheesy as that sounds. She's everything I have ever wanted in a friend and in a mother. She supports me even though she might not agree with what I'm doing, as long as I benefit in the long run.

I also look up to Sylvia Plath for her creativity and unique perspective, Mario Pei for rocking me linguistically, Virginia Woolf (even snobbish) for being a brilliant modernist, Neil Gaiman for being so inspiring and making me believe that good writers do still exist, and Tori Amos, Bjork, Maynard James Keenan, and Trent Reznor for rocking my world!

Tim Burton is definetly my hero. His has the most beautiful imagination of anyone I've ever met, and I really hope that I can inspire people like that someday.

Christopher Walken is another hero of mine. He's in nearly every other movie I watch, which is crazy! He just seems to love what he does so much that it inspires me to really get out there and try my best.

For the longest time I didn't. There just wasn't anyone out there that I admired or would want to emulate. Then came Martha and Sharon. Yep good ol Martha Stewart and Sharon Osbourne. They are both kick butt women that have clawed their way to the top. There's just about nothing they can't do. (except stay out of prison. LOL!) But yeah, they are the SHIZZNITE!

Bruce Dickenson, he's my damn hero. He's proud and yet brilliant at the same time. He's pursued his interests with tenacity and shown good humour at all times.

Oscar Wilde is also a genius, he's so damn smart, every thing he says seems to capture modern life's sense of ironic detatchment and at the same time remains humble.

I've always sort of looked up to Judy Garland, career and talent-wise. She was an amazing actress with an amazing voice and I respect her a whole lot. John Lennon was also someone I have great respect for. People may criticize him, but I respect and admire the courage he had...to go out there and do his own thing or whatever. He didn't let the fact that people expected him to be with a nice British gal (like Cyn) get him so far down that he didn't continue to persue his career as a musician. He was a good father to Sean, in the short time that he had with him. I think some of it had to do with how he felt about not being there for Julian, and trying to make up for it. He was real in every sense of the word and that rocks.

I am my own mentor and my own hero.

Who better to look up to than myself? Seriously! I've said everything I've wanted to say so far, and I've done everything I've wanted to have done so far.

I mean, what more do I need than that?

My mentor is my foster mother. She has been in my life for 18 years now, grandmother to my kids, the whole nine yards. I introduced her to paganism, but she joined a coven years before I got out of my solitairy mode, so now she is training me in that as well. Cool stuff.

I haven't yet seriously considered this question...
My heroes though lived many years ago, some of them centuries ago.I believe that there no longer exist heroes and if they do they are well hidden.
So a real hero for me is Che GueVara(sp?).He was from a wealthy family, had everything and could have already everything if he just stayed in Cuba but no!He sacrificed himself and get caught just to remind people that they should fight for their freedom and their rights.
Going back in time in Alexandrian Ages,Alexander is for me a hero. And not just a greek hero because what he did favored all the countries of Asia,Mesopotamia,Egypt and of course Greece. He was really intelligent, good with everyone, with virtue and faith in his vision,he didn't opress the dwellers of the countries he conquered...He was one of a kind.
I wanted to say that I admire King Arthur for many reasons but many of you can claim he wasn't real...
Now my mentor must be Loreena McKennitt.Since I discovered her cds I begun to look up to her more and more understanding what a wonderful person she is.Her music creates such powerful feelings, her music can travel you,can teach you...It's amazing! And in her cds booklets she often writes a few words like ege she says that she envisions inspiration as a Visit.I would like to meet her one day!

Well, this question(what your mentor/hero is?) belongs to the type of question that when asked you don't know what to say he he So if anything comes up I'll write it down.

I wouldn't call them heroes, but I have people that I admire and learn from. Both in my own circle of people as well as ones I have not met (but have for ex. read their books or attended their lectures). There are both spiritual inspirationalists as well as work- wise (midwives, psychologists etc).

My Hero is my Dad. He helps people buy their first homes and find low cost housing for low income families. After doing all that, he still comes home and finds the time to call each of his children and see how things are going.

My mentor is my senior year Psychology teacher. She is ultimately the reason I am going into teaching and continues to give me great advice. I'm only sorry that more kids don't have the opportunity to learn from her since she retired the year I graduated.

Heroes or people who are inspirational to me: Muhammed Ali, Ta-Shunka Witco (Crazy Horse), Carl Jung, Friedrich Nietzsche, Stephan Hawking, Aliester Crowley, Joan of Arc. Probably more, but that's all I can think of now.

Mentors or people who I consider my superiors on my spiritual path. Used to have 4 of them who I saw once or twice a year. Now I've become one of them, a peer. A woman I met over the summer now fills a mentor role and I hope to see her agin this year sometime. Also told of a man who wants to take me on as a student, but haven't gone to meet him yet.

I don't know about heroes, but I certainly had a mentor. He is quite human, but the best healer that I have met.

No. Personally I think that the word "hero" is thrown around way to much.If you can play a sport, your a "hero". If you can sing music (and a lot of times if you can't but some how you still put out a Cd or to, I'm talking to YOU Brittney Spears!) your called a "hero". If you Star in a movie (wether you can act or not) your a "hero". If you've been in the armed forces your automatically a hero (I'm sorry but just because you went and fought in a war does not make you a hero in my book) However a small list of people I look up to and respect are: Jon Stewart who continues to poke fun at the news and media. Hiroyuki Takei, who created the series "Shaman King" Probally my absolute favorite manga. And Jackie Chan because he does all of his own stunts. and with some of those stunts, that takes a lot of guts!

i find John Holt really inspirational (surprise).

my mom is amazing too. her life has been amazing - she immigrated from Holland to marry my dad here in Canada (she couldn't speak a word of English!)... she stayed home with us while we were young... she worked her butt off to support us when my dad got sick... she still works full time to support my dad and herself... she was a strict mom, but she's an awesomely fun grandmother :D i appreciate that she's allowed herself to just loosen up and really enjoy my kids, it's hard for her to just chill out after all she's done and seen :)

Does it make me pompous that I don't have a hero?

If you've been in the armed forces your automatically a hero (I'm sorry but just because you went and fought in a war does not make you a hero in my book)No, not everyone in the armed forces is a hero, but this still makes me very sad and I don't assume your grandfather or great-grandfather would find it very..."informed" either. Let me first make it clear that I do not believe that war is the absolute answer to our problems. I am a peace activisit through and through...HOWEVER, I recognize that this world is far from ideal and that some of the choices made in the past were thought to be the best course of action at the time. While I'm certain Vietnam could have been avoided, I'm not so certain about WWI or WWII. I think that the men (and women) who (whether voluntarily or otherwise) served in these wars deserve our recognition and our respect for fighting for and in some cases, laying down their lives for our freedom...irregardless of possible alternatives. They did what they thought they had to do. A precious gift, albeit a sad way of acheiving such. Sitting here right now, I hope that we can learn from our past and not have to turn to war, but again, this world is far from ideal. You say it takes guts for Jackie Chan's stunts? Does it not take guts to lay down your life for someone else? For an entire nation of people? No pun intended of course, although it is somewhat warranted.
