A self-dedication is a Ritual that is performed when an individual feels that they have reached a point in their spiritual evolution that they wish to formally and emotionally declare their devotion to their chosen path and to the Universe (the Gods, the Divine, the All). It is done in a way that evokes the innermost desires and patterns of the person in an effort to instill a sense of purpose and direction in the present towards the future. I suggest you read Scott Cunningham's Wicca - A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner and the sequel Living Wicca, they explain it all in a straight-foward and easy to read manner~

Here, I used this site for my dedication ritual. There are some good ones in here, along with other rituals that you could do. Type this in your browser: http://www.ladyoftheearth.com/rituals/rituals.html

Hope I helped you out! :havinapar

I've read that for a self-dedication ritual you should have something that symbolizes your old self and destroy it then create something that symbolizes your new self and keep it safe for the rest of your life. Try writing done all the negative characteristics you have that you want to get rid of (ie anger, doubt, hatred, laziness, and irrational fear) on a piece of paper then burn it. Then write down all the characteristics you want to gain (ie love, trust, understanding, patiences, wisdom, etc) on another piece of paper. Dip this paper in water and rub it all over your body. This will symbolize the death of you old negative side and the birth of a new better you.

This is just a suggestion. You don't HAVE to do this.

Birthdays are always a good choice for a dedication.....

While I have yet to preform a "Dedication Ritual" I am very opinionated on the subject! *lol*

Be 100% sure that the time is right for you, and pick a day which has some significance! A day which you feel drawn too! Birthdays and holidays are always excellent; but also you may feel drawn to one day in specific!

Best of Luck!

some people feel a dedication is required.

I don't. What's in your heart is what matters.

I did go through an initation for the coven that I was once a member of, but that's the closest that I've come.

I'm a dedication junkie. I love to re-dedicate perodically, re-affirm my comitments.

The most important part of a dedication in my opinion is to be clear what you are offering. To really try to open up to divinity to hear and be heard. To be sincere in your dedication. Don't worry too much about the ritual aspects... they can be fun, they can be useful, but one of my favorite "oops" stories is from the first time I dedicated and got a lesson in putting the ritual mechanics before the ritual purpose.

The purpose behind a dedication is to throw away a portion of your free will and declare to the universe that you are agreeing that you asked for it when the gods start mucking arround in your life. It often means that you do get a little more attention from them for a bit (having now signed on, they mess with you more) and are a bit more open to your contact. Until you've dedicated (perhaps formally, perhaps informally) you are your own person. Certain entities won't deal much with you before a dedication, some out of mistrust, some out of a sense of leaving you alone until you make this comitment of your own free will. By dedicating yourself to a path you are making comitments. And there is usually a bit of trust extended with that. Fail to uphold it and you lose a lot of credibility in certain areas, live up to the trust and you gain credit. You are declaring yourself to be something... and to act accordingly.

When do you do one? Ideally when you feel ready. You can tie in whatever other corespondences you like, but there is no one day that it "should" be done on.
