I used to be afraid of spirits... "ghosts"... but not really anymore. I used to be scared of alot... the dark and bats and stuff. Well, a bat was stuck swatting around in the dark in my garage when I was in there! Scared to death I jetted out the back door... this was at night, too- in pitch black.
But... there's this nasty spider outside of my kitchen window. It's got a nasty big butt. Yuk- I think I'll puke. Don't like spiders. Spiders scare me.

I would also have to include any natural disaster... esp being with my two kids... I don't want anything to happen to them. Or for them to get some kind of deadly virus. Or getting in a car accident with them in the back. (Knock on wood for everything!)
For me, if I didn't have my kids to worry about, I woudn't even be afraid of death itself.
I've been all alone before... I've even been depressed... I was on the brink of insanity and back...
But those nasty spiders... eeewww... I don't care about the ity bity ones... but this one it like the size of a sliver dollar... orange and black.

I suppose most things that are mostly out of my control, seeing as I'm never going to be a good swimmer because of some unexplained fear of water, I'll never be stronger than a man, I'll never be able to predict a tornado and all of us are at the mercy of eccentricities of the mind which could leave us but a shell of our former selves.

I hate traffic.
I am terrified of dying in a car accident, getting run over and getting seriously injured by cars.
Anything else, I can handle.
I feel like, if I was raped or attacked or something, I could fight back.
With cars you don't get the chance.
And in this society, you almost cannot avoid cars or similar vhiecels(sp?) at all.

~ Swimming in water over my head, even in a pool (all related to the above...even in a frickin' pool) I can swim just fine, but as soon as I realize I'm over my head I panic. I won't swim in the ocean at all...no further than waist deep. LOL
~ The dark, but only when I'm inside a house. Outside I absolutely love the dark.
~ Being alone in my house with the kids at night when Dan's not here. My mind starts convincing me someone will break in and I won't be able to protect my kids. :(

I remember somehow drifting off in a floatie in the ocean one day at the beach. I was young... under 3. But somehow I remember... drifting and drifting away. I remember coming to a cement kind of dock. Maybe they found me and brought me back. I remember when I used to live in florida, seeing a shark whale in the water- very big with spots- I thought it was a sea monster. And I remember my mom and her boyfriend catching a huge ass sting ray and pulling it on the shore... You will NEVER see me in the ocean again... maybe just waist high... but the feel of the seaweed and fish and stuff (I'm getting shivers!)
- Being in love
This is very true for me. But It's also the fact that I cannot help but keep falling in and out of it. And... I'm very scared of ending up stuck with someone who I've lost feelings for. Which may happen, because my ex wants me back- although i don't love him anymore.

I had to think about this for a while and, actually, not a lot of things really scare me.
I would have to say the only thing that absolutely terrifies me is if something were
to happen to my daughter. Not necessarily death because I truly believe death is
not the end but simply the next stage in this mistery we call life. No, something
so terrible it would shatter her spirit and make her lose her very soul.
Now, there's a truly horrifying thought.

I am so the opposite----I get panic attacks if I go away from the coastline. If I get inland (ie: east side of the Cascades in Washington--I'm near Seattle now), I feel landlocked and panic. I cannot handle the thought of being farther than an hour or so away from the ocean--for some reason, ever since I moved to the coast when I was 17, I've felt like 'now I can escape if I need to' and it has everything to do with being near the water. I'd be thrilled to live on an island out in the middle of an ocean away from any huge bodies of land.

The instability of certain people scares me (not people I know, it's just all this crime in the news worries me a whole lot).
Insects are a huge fear of mine, I don't care if they can't harm me.
Living my elder years alone or in a nursing home scares me, I would much rather have someone to stay by my side and take care of me and a nursing home just doesn't seem good enough.
Being manipulated. I generally don't see it for awhile if the person is really good at it, but when I do I feel like such an idiot.
Failing at my life goals (career, location, college, etc).
The death of anyone close to me.

I very much doubt my experience can be explained "rationally", the physical attacks were not inflected by myself. The scratches were too deep, wide and long for my nail (as I keep them trimmed). And how can science explain me being thrown from my bed to land several feet from my bed? Oh, what a frightening, and now, hilarious experience. I was walking through my yard, and a tarantula jumped out of the grass (I guess), up my shorts and bit me on my butt! Well, actually on the back of my leg, but close enough that it might as well have been my butt. It's funny now, but OMG did I FREAK when it happened. I couldn't walk, my leg felt like it was on fire. Am I seein a pattern here? What is it about spiders? The eyes, the legs, the fangs, the hairy ones, the ones with big butts?
The ones with nasty big butts gross me out and horrify me! Can you imagine squishing one of those? Yuk! I'd get sick to my stomache for days. Or the ones that look like they came from another planet- translucent with big black eyes!! Augh! :willy :lookaroun :excuseme: :lookaroun

Has anyone read the Pit and the Pendulum? Where the character's imagination was far more horrifying than the reality? I have this fear of the unkown. What happens after death, for example. Do we go to heaven, get reborn, or just cease to exist?
O, and spiders. I really don't like spiders.
Oh one of my all time favorite Edgar Allen Poe stories, and I agree with you the paranoia and fear in ones own mind can be the scariest of all things.!!!
Buy hey whats everyones beef with spiders??????????? I adore spiders! SPIDERS ROCK! :uhhuhuh:

I think spiders are more common and are basically everywhere, now if I lived in Texas or something, I'd be more scared of scorpions and rattle snakes!
But there are some animals I'd be both terrified and intrigued to see... like Great Whites and black panthers... even dragons!! I'd cry so happy to see them... and then I'd run away completey freaking out...lol.

Umm... getting stuck under the water and not able to get up... that's about it, really. There's things I dislike, but nothing I'm realllly scared of, that I can think of.
See, I LOVE snakes, they're awesome, spiders a non-issue, my old grade 7 teacher kept a huge tarantula in class, and 2 rattlesnakes. Bats are cool, there's a reason my camp nickname was Buffy. I play with fire on a regular basis... Car crashes and paralysis, I never thought about, I'll live if I end up paralized... and if I KNOW I'm going to die, if I actually see it coming, I'll take care of the dying end myself, I'd rather die of my own accord than someone elses, but then, I'm also the kind of person who doesn't wanna go of old age... anyway, going off topic, so.. yah.

Okay, now for physical things, if i am totally honest with myself (and i think this goes for many people) there is alot of things that scare me.
Drowing, enclosed spaces, crowds, going out alone, the thought of being trapped inside a mental institute (sometimes i feel like i belong in one  ) and many other things.... No one can ever NOT be afraid of anything at all, in reality :)

One day I got a phone call sayin I had cancerous cells, and I was scared.
I had them removed, and the whole process scared me.
When my water broke for my son 3 weeks early- it was all blood.
That scared me, and afterwards the blood clots would not stop...
very scary.
When my son had judancence (I think I spelled it wrong) I was so scared for him.

I just remembered one, "suburbia". Those overly matched housing developments with enough rules and regulations to rival a strict catholic school. :shaker:

I am afraid of the following:
Death- Especially if I haven't "lived" :shaker:
Loneliness- I don't mind being alone, as long as I am not lonely.
Pain- All forms
