YES I totally agree it is a must even if only once in a lifetime!!
I had so much fun and tuned in to alot I had no clue about!!
The locals seem to pick up on who is who and you never feel like a stranger if your open to recieve the knowledge!!
Much like New Orleans!! But then again I have always been the type to talk to strangers! :D

I've been there before, but it was quite a while ago. I would like to visit again.

Sounds great! :) I've always wanted to go; I feel a little weird about it though as well. I mean, it's a town profiting from the deaths of people, right? It doesn't normally bother me, but sometimes I get reminded of this scene from Roswell -- don't laugh-- where the teen aliens attend this Crash festival, and witness a reenactment of the 1942 crash. Everyone's screaming and cheering and laughing at the burning rubber aliens, but for the aliens actually watching, it's like seeing what happened to their ancestors.

I have never heard of this.... Wow!! I would really like to go one year... is it in Salem Maine.. or Salem, Mass? It was my belief that the Witches Inquisition happened in Salem, Mass? Does the organizers of that event have a website? Please, if you can... give more information!! It sounds wonderful!! :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

I believe they mean Salem Mass. I live in Maine and have never heard of any happenings in Salem here, but I could be wrong. I have been to Salem Mass. It was very friendly , though I did not go at halloween, because some of the locals warned me about Right Wing Christians who have harassed them in the past.

It is Salem Mass and if you go to www.salem.org they have alot of info on Salem and it's Haunted Happenings. I go every year and have been for ten years now. I don't really feel it is a town that is profiting off the death of others as Loopy stated but more of a tribute to them to let them know we feel they were wronged. It is by far one of the most incredible places I've ever been. I recommend everyone see it at least once if it's possible!

 yeah halloween night in salem is pretty much the closest thing to mardi gras you can get in new england. The christian fundementalists never really bothered me; when i have seen them the were walking in a procession singing hymns. Once i saw them forming a human chain around a statue. My friend bought a long stem red rose and placed it at one of thier feet. the guy cocked his head and asked "whats that supposed to mean?" My friend replied,"well it wouldn't be very cryptic if I explained it to you, would it Mr. Silly question man?" Then he blew him a kiss and ran off screaming LOOLOOLOOLOOLOOO! while waving his arms over his head. I thought it was hysterical. Eh. what do you want? I was 16. 8O
But its fun. Everyone is running around screaming and havin a good ole time. Very kinky energy.
