ok...this is REALLY bothering me, so I thought I'd put it out here, just to let you guys know what is going on in the Dental Care system right now.

As most of you know, I've been REALLY sick with an impacted, infected wisdom tooth this past week. I can't eat, i've lost weight. I have a fever, i'm in pain, i'm an emotional wreck because of stress in my relationship due to all of this. My hubby is having to miss work, to run me to the ER. I've been put on antibiotics by the ER, which are not working. I don't have dental insurance.

I've tried to get an appointment with a low-cost dental clinic in this area. I have an appointment for tomorrow afternoon. The only problem is...they don't deal with oral surgery. They refer you out. And the oral surgeons do not have any low cost dental plans. I've called every oral surgeon in the area..and all of them are booked solid for the next two weeks, and have two pages of "Emergency" patients waiting for cancellations before they can get in. And even if I were lucky enough to find an appointment...NONE of them even take payment arrangements. They expect payment at the time of your service. Now..it costs about 116.00 just for the office visit, and ex-rays. Plus, you figure in a perscription, and whatever else they do to you..you're talking over 300.00. No Payment arrangements???????? How can this be????? My hubby does NOT have the cash to put down on this bill. Not 300.00!!!!!!!!!! So meanwhile, I'm reallllly sick. The people at the ER, have done all that they can. So..what am I supposed to do?? DIE????????

I just thought I would let you know how it feels to be "Poor" in the hands of the Medical/Dentle system. I'm not asking for a FREE removal of my tooth (though that would be nice)..all I'm asking for is to be able to make payment arrangements. Because I don't have the money to do it all at once. And the ER even said, there is nothing more they can do..the tooth has to be taken out. BUT HOW???????????? We have low cost medical care. We have plans available for people who need emergency health care, where they can be taken care of for free. But we have no such thing for dental care. And an infected/impacted tooth, can be everybit as dangerous as a bullet lodged in your back. If it isn't taken care of. Anyone else think it's time for some reform?????? How can dentists get away with this? They have a monopoly on the buisness, since regular doctors cannot do a removal of a wisdom tooth, and yet these.."Specialists" are unwilling to help the unfortunate, who cannot afford their services.

I'm telling you, as one person caught in the system, there are times when you feel COMPLETELY abandoned by the system...and totally hopeless. For me, this is one of those times.

And beleive me lots of other people are caught in the system as well..... which is why we need a better system, even one along the lines of what Canada and Great Britain have ,,,,although I know people who have problems in those systems as well. I cannot believe there isnt ONE who wont make payment arrangements....have you tried calling one of those referral systems and finding a dentist who will take payment arrangements ??
Sometimes the compassion of the people IN the system has to outweigh the red tape.
In the nursing home where I work , not very long ago, we took a very old sick man who was found in an alley a nearby town , and we knew when we admitted him that we would have to "eat the bill " but we took him in he was incredibly filthy and smelled bad and not a pretty sight ..... but not long after we cleaned him up and put him in a clean bed , fed him what he could eat, he very quietly passed away.
That is what I mean when I say HUMAN COMPASSION HAS to outweigh the Money factor,
when I was talking about the poor people on the boat to Australia .......
I am sending Blessings Of Kuan Yin and healing energy .... that you may resolve this and return to health as soon as possible.
I would go through the yellow pages of EVERY dentist and talk to them and tell them your problem ......dont they have to take emergencies ??? and dont let those nasty receptionists put you off speak to the doctor......

I think it's ridiculous!!! Pretty much every single person has to get dental care at some point.. most people have to get emergency dental care at *least* once in their lives.. everyone has wisdom teeth, and mostly everyone *has* to get them taken out! For them to not help you is sick! I can understand wanting a small down payment, but the whole payment up front is ridiculous.. I don't know anyone with that kind of money. I feel for you, sweetie.. I'll be lighting some candles and doing some healing and money spells for you. Please keep us updated, or we'll likely go nuts with worry! BIG HUGS

Well.. it's still fondly called Dysfunction Junction.. LOL It's gotten alot bigger since the 70's (I'm assuming, I've only been alive since 1980). But it's still beautiful and a place I proudly call home. :) Did you live here or just visit?

I think D's experience as well as the experiences of a few of my American friends (one who just moved up here, several who want to move up here) suggest something.. anyway... discrimination issues, health plan issues, well, I won't go on. That's not the topic here :)

Brightest blessings on becoming healthy again D!
