Magical name

Someone mentioned in another thread about a magical name :confused: I don't have one....Can someone Help me and tell me how I give myself one?? Is it by meditating?? Sorry Im just new, and everythread I read holds something new i didn't know! :yikes:

I think I've actually finally found mine, after years of not really wanting/needing one :lol:

You can meditate to find it, although with me it seems to have come through time and experience; I just found a name relevant to my path which "fits" me and "clicks".

Hmmm... Magical name theory...

Well, the first thing to decide is what sort of use you have for it. Although these all tend to fall under magical names in general conversation, when talking theory I like to split the "spiritual names" and the "magical names" and the "use names" here.

Spiritual names are something you are taking on for a long time and aren't just about magic. They are part of the commitment to a path. They may or may not be secret. Think of nuns/popes/etc renaming themselves. A re-naming to go with a rebirth. Sometimes the nature of that path allows for further renaming, sometimes not. These often tend to be thought of as being as, if not more, "real" than legal names. It is either given to you or selected after MUCH meditation and soul searching.

Magical names are names taken as part of a magical process for a magical purpose. These can be short term or long term as needed. May or may not be secret, but usually are secret. Exact details are going to differ with different styles of magic, but these are usually choosen to create a magical persona. Importance placed on them varies. These are choosen to fit the need. This can mean meditation or study of symbols and such.

Use names are names taken to avoid giving out your "real" name. They are like the board names. Obviously not a secret, and they can change as the characteristics one finds to be important change and as others allow. How these are chosen depends on how easily you can change it. If you have to jump through a lot of hoops to convince others to accept the change it is more serious than if everyone changes their name every couple weeks.

Most people who take a name combine two or more of these.

I did a spell to learn mine, but not until after three years of practicing just fine without one!

My friends call me wacky, so I just put it together with witch. :D
