Two months ago I bought this Egyptian Tarot deck, the 'IBIS Tarot', to be exact.
My friend asked me, and I told her what deck I bought, and she said: 'Omg! You bought Egyptian Tarot?! But Egyptian Tarot is the most difficult one!'.
Is that true? Sometimes, the explanations about some certain cards are kinda diffcult to understand.. but..
However, I do like my Egyptian Tarot a lot. :uhhuhuh:

Hi WZ! I don't think any tarot is "the most difficult one". There are some decks that the author has really changed the symbolism or meanings, but as I've said before, most tarot decks have interchangeable meanings.

I don't have this deck, but here are images from Aeclectic: http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/ibis/ They don't seem to be RWS based, perhaps more based on Thoth. I'm not that familiar with Thoth, his deck creeps me out, no offense meant to Lady Frieda. (Sorry, Theres) ;)

After reading a few reviews it seems that having some knowledge of Egyptian symbolism may help. The creator appears to have included alot of different symbolism into the deck, which may be a good thing, but can sometimes be confusing to a beginner.

My best advice is: If you like the deck, stick with it. If you find it too difficult to work with right now, put it away until you are more familiar with the symbolism used, and then try again.

Let us know how it works out for you! :)

WarriorZhanna ~ Awesome avatar! As to the tarot deck being more difficult, some of the Egyptian ones can be rather lacking in traditional symbolism associated with a tarot deck. The Egyptian deck I have has very few people or scenes on it for me to interpret. If you have the five of pentacles, it will just show five pentacles and maybe a scarab beetle. I've found it rather difficult to interpret this deck without a lot of practice. Even even after three years with this deck, I still need to refer to the booklet sometimes to augment my own interpretations.

I own a Egyptian Deck. Actually I bought it first, then I got the Raider Waite. At the beginning I didnt understand it at all. It comes with instruction and a book explaining each Egyptian God and comparing to the Raider Waite. Reason why I didnt understand was because I knew nothing of tarot decks at all! Then after I got the Raider WAite and sticked to it and read books about it, one day I tried the egyptian deck and it was so much easier to understand because now I have knowledge on the Raider Waite. But still there are certain things like for example my cards have a representation of a Queen, a Writer and a "Egyptian Priest", each with different symbols that I cant understand. So still, Raider Waite is much more easier.

i love my Egyptian Tarot deck. I find it much easier to understand that the more traditional decks, but mayeb that's because i've spent so long researching ancient egypt that the symbolism doesn't bother me. The cards i have all have beautiful images on them, which for me really helps tpo come to grips with the symbolism. i don't read them all that often, but i saw them in a bookshop one day and thought i had to have them. They're the only deck i feel truly connected to.

bright blessings,
argent

I'm almost mastering these cards, and the symbols don't really disturb me. Actually, I can understand the symbolism. And I love it all in general. So.. yeah.. I guess it just seemed difficult for my friend. :)

Hey, NeferSesemet, thanks! :colorful:
