View Full Version : Are Admins intimidating?

Are you afraid to post or speak up after an admin posts in a thread?
Understand, we are members as well as admins, and if we post in a thread, ours is just another voice shouting out to the members here. If we MODERATE and post ADMIN MODE in our posts, then and only then are we posting as admins in a disciplinarian sort of way. The admin mode is the post not to respond to other than be nice and if you disagree with that moderation then report or send email to admins.
Other than that, we are just like you. Fair game. :bouncingb

Not at all, you guys do a great and necessary job. As you said, you plainly mark when you are working as admins. I don't see why people would have an issue or feel intimidated, you guys are friendly. You moderate fairly and if people don't like it they are free to take it further privately, a lot of boards don't allow that.

Or i worry i will say something comepletly dumb (like below) and you'll moan at me. However i still do it, thats what the edit button is before.so i can go back and delete it!

I don't view admins as any different from other members, except that they have a responsibility on their shoulders that I do not envy, and a stigma that comes with a badge.

As Admins you guys are VERY good. My only complain is that every time I write to say something seems offensive to me, your so quick at removing it I end up deleting my posts :)
When your not in Admin mode I really just think of you as other members. I am an Admin on a LARP board though, so that might influence my attitude towards it.

Saying something we don't agree with will usually not harm you. What you will want to look out for, is directly attacking people, or doing general bad stuff.
Disagreeing with an admin will not get you banned. Usually.

i dont know exactly a name for the feeling. but i d compare it to what you feel wehn youz are driving and you meet a police car.
you imediately overthink all your actions and possible misactions, and maybe watch your behaviour a tad bit more than usual, not that you were a BAD driver if there was no police. Not that tehre was any reason to worry about it - just to be on the safe side.
inm fact you should be ALWAYS that alerted, but of course you arent, which is human, and seeing the police car you immediately switch to FULL CAREFULNESS.
same with ADMIN MODE posts.
at least for me.
so, i d say, its a good thing admin posts exist. they just are a great reminder.

My opinion has pissed off an admin before. I wasn't rude or disrespectful in anyway, but I still managed to burn a bridge with a popular person on this site. It sucked and it was a negative experience for me. It changed my opinion of admins. But I love so many people here, and I have gotten such amazing support here. I would never let one disagreement ruin this experience for me, and I know that other person feels that way too.

Nah. I figure what the heck can they do? If I suddenly decide to run amok and go nuts, all they can do is ban me from the site and since I tend to avoid posting on line if I've had a little too much sherry (and that seldom happens), there's not much chance of that. Of course, sometimes I'd love to just up and whop a few people upside the head and knock sense into them, but hey, again, it's the internet and there are better ways to spend my time. So nope, not afraid.

I got banned off another site for asking for help with some dreams, and the forums giving me some advice and me saying that their advice wasn't relevent to my situation. How strange is that? But here's much nicer, which is why I now use these forums and not others. Admins don't scare me and so long as they're fair I tend to be just the same as I am to anyone else

I've been here for two and a half years. I think I've been moderated twice, maybe. I crossed a line both times and needed to be told so. No worries. Both times the admins where more than kind about it. Never all tyranical or anything. I don't see any reason to fear any of them.

trust me, as members, myself and my fellow mods often get pissed about something that an obnoxious member might say, or that a cool member might suddenly spout out and shock with. We even, on occassion lose our cool in posts about it, but as admins, we are very quick to Judge each other's moderations if we feel they were too hasty. Banning is usually something that took much time to agree on, many warnings and second chances...or the person was a serious problem (like mass spam, huge troll "ie. name calling of gigantic proportions and bashing the path and all who follow it by using very derogatory language" and of course, those who join only to post serious porn links or cause harm to the community.

I try to be respectful of all the folks on MW, whether they are an admin or not. Seems like a no brainer to me.
But I have seen a brand new member, only 4 posts old, get banned for disagreeing in the public posts with an admin's decision. I just shook my head and thought, dude, that was no way to start off your career here at MW.
The admins are people, plain and simple, and they deserve to be treated as such. When they are in ADMIN MODE, then they are watching out for us and deserve our respect.
Now, *looks around*, any admins handy I can tick off? _tsk_

I see the Admin here as regular members, it's just that you see more of them as their names are in bold and they are everywhere. So i seem to take more notice when they are around.
I will say that i am in awe of Mol & Semele.
But all that said, and knowing that i feel the admins are just another member (albeit with more to do than any of the rest of us).....
I feel stoopid when i reply to most threads, whether there is an admin replying in there or not. There are alot of talented and knoweledgeable people here on this forum and it can make us little people feel insecure enough to NOT reply. We really don't want to feel even more stoopid. So i think that is why i don't reply as much as i want to.

I try not to say anything that might cause an argument, yeh you say we have a right to state our opinions (and i believe you) but admins seem to have more of an advantage, they can say what they like... And if one admin disagrees with me, i suddenly think everyone here hates me... I become very upset a few months back, i stated an opinion, not rude, hurtful or anything.... and i got a bad response from an admin & i ended up in tears, so i kinda keep my mouth shut when it comes to stating opinions in a specific way..

Admins don't have the right to say just anything... more often than not when we screw up, there is 13,000 people to call us on it. And it happens, too. We are humans and make mistakes. We have to be more careful of our admin and non-admin posts because of the public function we fulfill.

I have had a couple of not great experiences. . .and if it were not for Shanti and FGM saying anything, I wouldn't have either. Sometimes emotions run high and things are misunderstood or put in a context in which they were not intended. . .and things get said based on that misunderstanding. . .then people's feelings get hurt and. . .(nope that is as far as I will go). I will say that there are times when it doesn't feel "safe" to post a thought or opinion, even after reviewing it endlessly to make sure no offense can be taken. . .
And as a general apology for anyone offended by what I have said. . .I did not mean offense, nor was I disrespecting anyone's position. . .
Xentor is the nightwatchman. . .he carries the nightstick/billy club to "buffalo" those who get out of hand. . . *imagines Xentor dressed like Kevin Costner in - Tombstone or Wyatt Earp. . .can't remember which one*

Is that what we are to each other here at MW ??
Fair Game??
Forgive me if I hope that's not really what sharing opinions,
And responding to each other in threads, is really all about.
As far as the Administration of MW goes ….
I've never had a negative experience with any of the admin folk,
Or the Site God & Goddess ...
So I have to say that so far, (knocking on wood) ...
I don't find any of "them" intimidating in the least.
I wouldn't be afraid to post, or respond to "them" in a thread.
But I also want to add that lately ...
I've become extremely uneasy and apprehensive in general,
About posting in any thread!!
Let alone starting a new one.
I’ve learned to genuinely fear those few members,
Who seem to take genuine delight in ripping others to shreds
With their harsh debate tactics.
Then as their final victory, adding insult to injury,
By taking karma from you.
Talk about intimidation!!
Learning to keep ones opinions to them selves,
Can be an emotionally painful experience.

I see it as a learning process, for me to learn how to balance my emotions.

Are you afraid to post or speak up after an admin posts in a thread?
If we all follow the rule of respect then there shouldn't be anything to fear.

nope, you guys don't scare me at all. But then I don't believe I've ever said a thing that needed to be moded... If I did, I'd probably be harder on myself than the admins lol.

Nobody can fear Xen after making him blush by cooing how cute his red hair and goatee can be ;).
Isil??? *snicker* She loves cats, who can be afraid of someone that loves cats?!?
Kay and I disagree from time to time in chat but ain't no thing to that really. Different practicing philosophy is all ;).
Mol and Semele? Shoot, if mol didn't have his Site God on stuff, you'd never know he was an admin. Same with Semele.
I think Ben would be quite bored if there wasn't a political debate going on.
And I can't be afraid of someone that moves around a hot potato can I? :)

I think I might have been more intimidated than afraid when I first came here. But then, I got to know the admins through their posts, and really, they are just people too. Sure, the admin mode can be intimidated and has most likely been abused a bit here and there, but I know they also have an internal checks and balances situation, and you can always pm another admin and express your feelings.
I pretty much keep my nose clean, and only "attacked" one troll idjit ONCE, but since he was smacking EVERYone in his path down, I didn't get warned but got karmalized instead :D. Needless to say, that particular thread banned his butt for good, and that was probably a good thing!

Fair game. :bouncingb

Nah... most of the moderators are pretty laid back, and pretty good at taking a joke. :p If they're posting in admin mode, its for a good reason. I respect that.

i am a little intimidated of posting after an admin posts in a thread, but that is not limited to just admins. there are some people who have been here a long time and know a lot and i am intimidated of posting after them as i feel that there probably isnt anything that i can add to a debate with such knowlegeable people.
so yeah i guess.
i dont think the admins themselves seem scary, but i dont actually know any of them.
