View Full Version : Stress & physical tolls

Anybody got any really good spells or medicine bag ideas for helping the physical effects of stress? My SO is so completely strung out & stressed out with work, divorce, us, and everything that it's making him physically ill. His poor tummy is revolting against him. He's in therapy, he's trying meditating, but he's still having issues keeping food in.
I just don't feel I have enough experience or knowledge in this kind of stuff to make anything really effective for him.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Tiger Balm is really good for tense muscles.
What's going on with his tummy? Could you be a little more descriptive?
chamomile is relaxing. I prefer a tea of 2 parts mint, 1 part catnip, and a pinch of vallerian root. Careful as the vallerian root is the source of vallum... use just a little, not too regularly, and only if you know that he's not going to have any issues with either vallerian or vallum. (if you have any doubts, skip the vallerian until you talk to a Dr.)
A bath with epsom salts and a few drops of lavander essential oil would probably help.
I hope he feels better soon, and I hope that the issues get worked out in a timely manner. :)
Disclaimer: This is not a substitute for talking to a Dr... et. al.

His tummy is just.....rejecting all food. It's shooting it out one end or the other just as fast as it goes in, and when his tummy's emtpy, he's still got intestinal cramping & gurgling & tons & tons of gas. He's convinced it's just stress, so he's going to talk to his psychiatrist about it at his appt Tues. If it's not a bit better in the morning, I'm going to make him go to his gp & get checked out.

Mine's like that too when I'm stressed. :( I go on a regiment of chamomile tea and toast, chamomile is very relaxing and that's been mentioned before. Other than that, instead of meditating which can be very difficult when you're really stressed, I do progressive relaxation which is tightly clenching and relaxing all the muscles in your body. He can start with his arms and move up to the head, and then down the rest of the way. He should always relax the muscles for twice as long as he tighten them, and maybe he should do his abdominal area twice. Or three times.
It sounds like it shouldn't help as much as it does, but it's very relaxing. And it's something to do which takes your mind off of the stresses. Hope it helps.

Slippery elm bark will probably be able to alleviate the symptoms :)
You can get it from health food stores etc.

Have you tried removing common allergy foods from the diet? My friend is allergic to grains and became *suddenly* better once she stopped eating grains.
Also, I find hot chocolate will sit on my stomach when I'm not feeling well.

From the description of the stomache issues... he should probably see his GP... if not a gastro. You never know... it could be something else. Slippery elm is good (make a tea). Have him nibble on a little dried papaya (has many beneficial enzymes).
