The Green Man

This last weekend, I recieved a vision of The Green Man. It was the sterio-typical face, surrounded by ivy.

So....

I'm looking for any information anyone has on him.

I love the Green Man. He's a vegetable god and a god of the forests. According to what I've read, he's often referred to as "Jack" in Western culture, and is equivalent to Jack Frost and Jack O'Lantern. You can sometimes see his leafy face carved on the facades of old Victorian buildings.

IndigoOwl, these carvings date back much further than the Victorian era. They first appeared in the 2nd Century CE on memorials. By the 4th century they could be found on Christian tombs, and in the 6th century in the churches and other places of worship.

The Greenman is the only face of the God that has ever really appealed to me. I was wondering how you saw this vision? I have seen the Greenman. He crept up to my Paw Paw's bedside when he was dying, but I have never been sure if he came for me or for Paw Paw. Paw Paw's bed was right near a window at the hospice and outside were alot of trees (It's WV there isn't much other than trees here ;) ). As I sat in the window I saw his face appear in the trees several times during the day, each time closer to the window. My Paw Paw was very connected to the earth and had a seriously green thumb. He taught me most of what I know about herbs and plants. If he had been outright pagan, he would have definitely connected with the Greenman.

Don't look "too much" into it. He may of just been saying, "I am here". It may have been an introduction.

Hi! The Green man has been my patron god for some time, and I am still trying to find as much information as I can on him. I guess he just started showing up everywhere, in pictures, sculptures and then I realized he was trying to get my attention. I even have one in my porch garden.

He might be just saying hi, or he might be calling you. Only you will know that. He is the only face of the god so far that has appealed or called to me.

I know its cold right now.. but you could try bundling up and going outside. I kept seeing him over spring/summer everytime I would go to a nursery, but nature would be a good place to start.. after all he his the green man!

Thanks for posting all these great links. I feel a calling by the green man's energy, and have been called to nature for quite some time.
