Now if only this new entity would merge with Walmart then rednecks could do all their shopping in one place. :toofless:

Edit: I just want to say that I am joking so don't be offended.

Bad comment to make on here. Most of us can't afford to shop at the Gap, and LL Bean all the time.

On the subject; I thought K-Mart was in the hole and had to file for bankruptcy a few yrs. ago?! How the heck did they come up with that kind of money?!

You know what really pisses me off?? My husband owned quite a bit of K-Mart stock. When they filed bankruptcy....he lost all the stock...gone...nothing. Now they're still in business and buying Sears and their stock is sky high compared to what it was. It's just not right :atantrum:

Sorry guys, I meant no offense. It was a joke that backfired. I'm a bargain shopper myself... it's the smart thing to do. _tomatoe_

If I were really offended I would have taken away karma, but I realized the attempt at humor, and it was funny. But next time you should put j/k so we will know you are kidding and not just a jerk.

P.S. I would like to use this opportunity to state that I am an "Hick" not a "Red Neck". LMAO!

i like walmart for shopping, but i can't say i can agree on its effects on the economy. anyways, when i heard abut the buyout on the news, i was under the impression that Sears bought out K-Mart... that would have made more sense to me... oh well.

My hubby happens to work for K-Mart and has for years now, though not in a management position. He has heard rumors of this ever since K-Mart was coming out of bankrupcy and Mr. Lambert purchased K-Mart (Lambert also owns Sears). It makes sense to merge since K-Mart's current owner also owns Sears. His employer made the announcement suddenly today before he left to go home--they stated they had just received the news via E-mail. Hmmm. Hubby is concerned because the warehouse he works for is currently unionized, and this merge could affect that and his job and wages, etc. I told him not to worry, cuz I wub him and we will get through it if it is bad (others have gone through much worse out there), and maybe it will be better. :) Who knows.

But IMO, neither store is (K-Mart or Sears) great for shopping in my book, and neither really seems to be raking in the customer's and their cash; they just don't seem to have a knack for marketing and retail, IMO (I used to work for Wal-Mart). I personally love JC Penney and Wal-Mart. But hey! ;) I shop where ever they have what I need/want at the right price; no shame in that! And sometimes, you can get things (clothes) on sale in the mall that are much more fun and longer-lasting than in the cheaper discount stores--you just have to look around for the deal. And sometimes you can get ripped even in the discount stores; I saw an $80 leather coat at K-Mart recently. PFFFFT!! No WAY am I paying something like that for a coat at K-MART. HA-HA! ;).

I will keep you informed if I hear anything new, if you want. I know my hubby is facing change, but I am not too worried. In my experience, change is always a good thing and results in growth that was much needed--unless you end up homeless :yikes: ...knock on wood (taps on her head).

ETA: IMO, the biggest rip out there is Limited Too. What a scam and a rip. $60 for a pair of pants that are no better in quality than dollar stores for a 6 year old, and we all know what peer pressure does to kids; "Mom, I gotta have this Limited Too shirt!!" BULL-KUCKY!! I watched them RAISE prices of things in the $10s and $20s just as Christmas started. 'Scuse me while I curse them... $$#@6$$#!@%T%$~!!!!

Kmart did go bankrupt. They just came out of it. Paid the executive $90 million and then asked the state of Michigan for a $45 million tax credit. They haven't replaced the board of directors so I'm guessing now both Kmart and Sears will go down the tubes.

Hmmm...I usually buy most of my tools, house and garden, from Sears. I guess I'll be looking for a new source. Craftsman are good tools too.

Aww, NH, leave off Martha, hm? She's doin' her time...

This is very interesting news. I wonder if both dept stores will NOW get their collective heads out of their arses and get some decent business done. They've both failed miserably, as SM stated above, at doing just that, when back in the day they were great retailers. Decent anyway.

And when kids are outgrowing stuff...what's the point of spending $60 on a pair of jeans when they're only gonna wear them for 6 months before they've outgrown them? I may pay $50 for a pair of jeans, but I get several years' wear out of them, too!

EXACTLY!!! What is Limited Too thinking? :foh:

FWIW, my DH is getting rather excited now about the merger. He loves Craftsman tools and Sears' appliance line. He said he heard they plan to phase out both stores eventually. They are creating a merged store they will call Sears Grand (Grande?) and they will stand alone and carry everything from the tools to lawnmowers to all the appliances and clothes. One thing that is good, think about this: Sears carries brands like Mudd and LEI. That is a GOOD thing. Imagine getting to go to a Grand store (K-Mart) and get that stuff there! That would be cool. I can live with that. Hopefully this will be good for DH's job security as well. :nonono:
