Chat vs Post

Hey guys,
I was just wondering, in a brief daze of ponder and found this thought: :D

How may of us pefer chatting over posting? Posting over chatting? Both? What do you find yourself doing more and why?

Since I've joined MW, I've only been in the chat 3x's... and not for very long either. I don't know what it is. I just like making a comment or giving my opinion about something, then seeing people respond and relate to it. Posting actually gives more time for others to see and respond. Plus my avatar and banner, too.

Chat scares me...too fast to keep up, I don't know if something is directed at me or not....it's just easier to post and reply. :lol:

i like the chat, but sometimes i go in there at the wrong times... its hard for me to just jump into some conversations. i like the forums though, because you aren't focusing on one conversation, there are hundreds to join in on.

Well, lately, I've been prefering LJ to post and chat :$ Just cause then people tend to babble more about theirselves than they do in conversation, and I enjoy reading it :$ I really enjoy reading about my friends "adventures" and stuff :$

i can't stand chat rooms myself. partly because i just can't type fast enough to keep up, but mostly because it always ends up in banter and i lose interest really fast (not that there aren't an overabundance of mindless posts too).

i prefer a considered comment or reply rather than the first thing that rolls off someone's fingers, and that is more likely to occur in a post than in a chatroom.

I prefer posting because you can take the time to give meaningful and in depth responses. Chatting always seems more superficial and light. Plus I access the net and MW at work and posting is a lot more discreet hehehe

I like posting compared to chatting, because i get to see tons of different opions on different subjects. And its easier to see whos a jerk and who isnt by how they post and what they say in that post ^.^ _happydanc

Hmmm...It depends on my mood. I like talk because of the real time...that's always nice. But I like posting because well than it's there for everyone to see...lol. I don't know...I think I like them both equally.

Definitely posting, unless the chat is one on one or a room consists of only a few people. Most chat rooms tend to get too frenetic for my taste, and I don't like the "cliqueyness" many of them seem to develop.

It depends on who's in the chat and the subjects of the day if I'll actually participate, same with the boards. I'm about equal either way.

Posting. I very rarely have to time to commit to chatting or IM-ing. Here I can pop on, make a post, pop off. If (ok when) my kids are yelling for me, I can leave the computer, deal with them, get back.

Chatting is fun, but I find since I am rarely on, everyone else seems to know each other closely, and I feel like that outsider at a party, standing by herself.

Then there is the time like the other night where I was desperate to talk to someone, took over the chat, blasted everyone with my issues, then ran off. :(

So I try to stay out of the chat room for the most part.

Ditto. Here, I've only popped into chat once to see the format and to realize I can set up my irc client to get into it (I avoid browser-chatting when I can). Haven't had a cahnce to go back in since. I do use #net.goth on darkernet though, a channel that's related to the goth.net forums. I still use forums more frequently because I don't have to keep up with the conversation in real time as much.

I used to chat on trillian, and it sucked up my life, lol. Posting in forums takes up enough day- and nighttime hours as it is. Add chat, and yeah, there goes the neighborhood!

Chat *laughs* I like it for several reasons, mostly because while I'm at work, it's easier to chat with the people I want to talk to than to send emails constantly or PM's. I'm not big on posting anyways, mostly because, well... I'd rather read and observe.
