Maybe he just wanted to feel comfortable when he went out to get some smokes.

Maybe he'd just stepped out of the shower.

Or he wanted to feel casual.

Police don't know. What they do know is that a man wearing a purple bathrobe robbed a QuikTrip store at 2801 S. Hydraulic Tuesday night.

If a further description will help in the apprehension of the robber, we will provide it here:

The bathrobe included a braided belt.

The belt was tied neatly in a bow.

The robber wore a dark colored headband.

He carried a handgun.

He was a black male, looked to be about 30 years old, about 6 feet tall, about 150 pounds.

He walked behind the counter about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, and took five cartons of cigarettes and $45 in cash.

He left on foot.

No one got hurt.

Police do not have any suspects in custody.

And Lt. Gavin Seiler said they don't yet have a theory about why a man would dress in a bathrobe to rob a convenience store.

But they'll work on it. Police aren't casual about such things.

You can't make stuff like this up. :geez:

Well, you could, but why would you?

I wonder if he was wearing slippers or Nikes?

I think he was just engaging in the entrepreneurial spirit of armed robbery. There's a low overhead, you set your own hours, you're your own boss. So why not establish your own dress code for your chosen occupation. Maybe it was his Dress Down day for work.

What we he thinking? It must have gone something like this:

*Beeeeep beeeeeep beeeeeeep* Ugh..stupid alarm
*smacks alarm- gets out of bed, wanders around aimlessly until he finds the shower* (singing) I like big butts and I cannot lie (gargle)
*dries off, throws on robe, puts clothes in the dryer, goes outside for a cig* Damn! Outta 'da smokes. I best be getting some.
*pulls gun from glovebox, walks to corner mini-mart, impressed with himself for such a slick disguise* Hand over the smokes man!
*teller falls to floor* Lazy ass mo-fo anyway
*walks behind counter, grabs his smokes, takes some cash while he's already busted, walks back home*

That is sooo funny. I used to work at a bank, and oh my.. If I had ever been robbed by someone in a bath robe, I'm sorry, gun or not; I don't knwo if I could have taken him seriously. **and yeah, I was robbed at Gunpoint when I worked at CVS/pharmacy. So i know guns are serious.

That is just too funny. He really must ahve wanted cigarettes, and with preices as high as they are, I almost don't blame him.

Yeah, I figure the clerk was just standing there with his/her mouth open, wondering WTF and a couple of minutes later went "Hey! I was just robbed!" :T

the police have no suspects in custody...does that mean that there were no witnesses...like, there was no single person who spotten a man in a purple bathrobe with a belt neatly tied in a knot walking down the street????

The story doesn't say what time of night it was. Maybe no one else was on the streets. Maybe that's the kind of neighborhood where people don't rat out their "brothas" to the cops. Maybe this is a guy with a history of weird behavior and no one thought twice when they saw him walking down the street in his bathrobe. Maybe someone DID see him, but hasn't heard about the robbery to make the connection. *shrug*

We have four local news stations in Wichita and they don't all carry the same story, so it's easy to miss a report like this. Not everyone subscribes to the newspaper either.
