Why is it that my calm was disturbed by this horrible aroma of overly perfumed body? Why do people do this? Can't they smell it on themselves? I literally am getting sick over here!!! Ugh!!! This drives me batty!!! :bat:

I think that a touch of perfume is okay, maybe a dab on some pulse points, but to bathe in it? UGH!!!

I know just what you mean Lady Autumn Cat.
But ..
When I come into contact with one of those "overly perfumed" people ...
I always have this immediate feeling of compassionate pity for them.
Knowing that “for what ever reason”
They have no idea that the perfume they bathed in to make themselves attractive,
Is having totally the OPOSITE effect!!

I can’t help but feel bad for them …
As I’m sure that if they’re bathing in any sort of artificial scent,
They must have some self esteem issue going on.

actually, i think they *can't* smell themselves after a while.

i know if i wear a perfume on a daily basis, after a while i just don't smell it anymore, so i think i need to spritz on a little more... and so on...

my dad is the king of too much cologne, because he doesn't smell it in small quantities anymore, but he knows he likes it. my mom has actually started putting it on for him (one spritz in the air, walk through it) because both she and i are prone to migraines from strong perfumes. (i wear Poison on occasion and put it on the same way. my best friend wears some cheap strong smelling stuff and overly perfumes - i can't hang out with her when she does that, i literally HAVE to walk away or i'll get sick)

(((hug))). i hate encountering over perfumed people anywhere.

I think they do this because they are clueless. I've tried telling my brother his cologne is nice but that he needn't marinate in it and looks at me with this blank expression like he didn't understand the comment. I also don't think they consider that some people may not only be offended by it, but may also be allergic to it. It's one of the first things people are (and should be) told about going on job interviews... don't wear cologne or perfume and if you feel you must, wear something very light.

Zehava is correct. They can't smell themselves. My mother used to tell me that by the time you can smell yourself, Other people have been smelling you a long time. Basically, it's more difficult for you to smell your own perfume, body odor or breath than it is for other people. :whatgives:

A good many people fear others smelling any kind of body odor on them and try to "scent mask".
I think it should be labled as a phobia honestly.

i find that in N. America there is this idea that natural smell of a human body is somehow offensive, and must be hidden.... while perfume in many cases not only covers up the 'odor' but also can be used as a form , how do i put it... showing off, sorta? since for some reason wearing an overpriced brand name perfume is more acceptable, desirable than wearing well... just a cheap and simple perfume or body mist?

it's winter
maybe they have a cold, and didn't realise they put so much on

Now I find a man wearing a nice subtle cologne that mingles with his body warmth to be intoxicating :) :loveduv:
The key is to pick something that goes with your chemistry, and that "enhances" you rather than drowns you. A nice soft fragrance can be just as nice as any other accessory, such a jewelry :)

I encounter it all year long. There have been some very interesting theories put forward here. I'd say there is some truth in each of them. Perfume makes me sick as well, migraine, fuzzy-thinking, sometimes nausea. Heck, I can't even walk down the candle aisle in the stores because they have so much scent in them it makes me sick.
