My first tarot deck came in the mail today!
I got the Universal Waite deck, because I heard it was a good one to begin with. Right now, I just keep looking at the cards and feeling giddy. I suppose I'll have to start learning what to do with them, now. :hahugh:
It also came with a copy of Bill Anderton's Tarot: Discover the Mysteries of the Future with Tarot. Does anyone have any experience with this book?

A very nice deck to begin with. All the symbolism of the Rider Waite Smith, with nicer colors. Good purchase!
I have not read the book you mentioned, no. But good luck with it and your new tarot journey!

That's GREAT, Soulsong! "Super-cool!" And the Univ Waite is a great deck, as well. Mary Hanson-Roberts is the woman who "recolored" Pamela Coleman-Smith's origonal drawings, and some people like the "pastel" softness that she renders.
Regardless, I think that it's always best to begin (and end?!!?) w/a traditional RWS (<== Rider-Waite-Smith) deck of Tarot cards.
I, too, have not read the above mentioned book.
However, I'd like to make a request: Would you read the Tarot, for me? It can be a "blind reading," w/no question from me, OR? You might tell me what you see in this inqurey:
"With whom shall I be spending Thxgiving with?" (((And--*hint*--they're only TWO possible . . . Well! That *I* can foresee, that is!!! Two possible ANSWERS . . .)))
:fpraiseyo
I humbly await your reply . . .

Oh goodness, you're really having me jump into this, aren't you? :)
I'll see what I can come up with after meditation this evening. I haven't done an actual reading yet, so I might come up with some . . . interesting results.

Vipassana.
My apologies for the delay, I was brutally attacked by a migraine last evening. :geez:
I've jumped in head first and laid out a "Celtic Cross" type spread. I'm working on transforming my notes into something cohesive to post. I feel a bit overwhelmed, I think this is going to take a lot of practice!

I've jumped in head first and laid out a "Celtic Cross" type spread. .....<snip>..... I feel a bit overwhelmed, I think this is going to take a lot of practice!Again, congrats on your new deck. If you're feeling overwhelmed, I would suggest starting out a bit smaller. :) The Celtic Cross is NOT an easy spread to work with, and there are many different versions of it, so it's only natural that you're confused. I would suggest beginning with a 3 card spread like "Past, Present, Future" or "Mind, Body, Spirit".
In the case of your reading for Zander you could pull one card to represent Zander (the querent) and one for each of his choices. 3 cards keeps it simple and keeps you from getting discouraged. ;)

Heh, that sounds much simpler, I think I'll give it a try. I did enjoy mucking through my big scary spread though. I think it was a good exercise, even if it'll take me awhile to be confident about it.

Ok Zander, I’ve taken Lisa’s most excellent advice and consulted three cards about your Thanksgiving adventure. Of course, you probably have your Thanksgiving plans well sorted out by now, but here it is anyway:
1 – You – Seven of pentacles
This card speaks of hard work and successful projects, provided you don’t get distracted. Maybe you are already leaning toward one of the choices? If so, I would say that this card encourages you to follow through. I also get an impression that it is cautioning you to be careful in this – perhaps there are broader consequences to your decision than simply who to spend Thanksgiving Day with?
2 – Option #1 – Ten of pentacles
This is a card of home and family. It may indicate certain family traditions you wish to maintain. As it is the same suit as the card representing yourself, this may be the option closer to your heart – but that’s just a feeling I get. It also speaks of prosperity and good fortune, which may be an indication that this choice will be more fulfilling for you. (Or maybe it just means these folks will have more food at dinner!)
3 – Option #2 – Page of Cups
This card seems to represent a loyal and helpful person, maybe someone who is always there when you need a hand. This person may have a tendency to be emotional, and might be more likely to be hurt by a real or imagined rejection or slight. The presence of this card also indicates to me that you should feel free to trust your feelings in this decision, as opposed to reasoning it out.
If you’re interested in what I managed to puzzle out with the Celtic Cross, I can try to post a semi-coherent description after Thanksgiving. (I shuffled the cards for this one without a specific question in mind). For now, though, I need to hit the road so I’m just driving in blowing snow, rather than blowing snow and the dark!

I'll have to get back to this (and I will) probably tonight/early morning, tomorrow (you know me: The Night Owl)!!!

Yes, I would, very much so! (Also, I was thinking of trying to get a group/of posting something like a "C.C. Experimental Thing/workshop" on MW's (altho I know "it's been done, before," and w/good success, too, I might add. What does everyone here think?)
Thx, again, Soulsong!

"Evening, Soulsong!
Are you "sick of" the "newbee" XMas songs on the radio, yet, by every other musician? (((I'm "getting there," and FAST, too! HA!!!)
All right. I'm going to comment upon your interpretation(s) of the Tarot cards and positions, &c, here, and . . . And, it really doesn't matter what The Outcome was, pertaining to me & my question, okay?
I'm also not going to tell you things like: "You did a Good Job!" or "That's 'all right' that you . . ." and/or something "stupid," like: "It's 'The Thought' that counts," because, I don't respect advice and comments, like that, and you shouldn't, either!
The reading of the Tarot IS a "process," I think. Sure, some people (and? The ones who are really usually most always REGRET IT. It SUCKS to have to take "time off" from reading because you're . . . You can no longer STAND IT from walking down the street and there're all these IMAGES in your brain!!!)
But? I regress and that's something for me and my psychiatrist to figure out (after TEN YEARS you'd think, aye?!!? HA! Truly . . .)
Has everyone heard SHERYL CROWS version of Charles Schaltz "Christmas Time is Here?" O My God . . . As if the origonal wasn't . . . TEARFULL enough! ("Good" tears!!!)
Now, then:
For one, I see that you've chosen to NOT use ill-dignified (that is: "Reversed") cards. I do use them. A lot of folks don't (for example, Robin Wood and Rachel Pollack, among others) but, I DO, and I think that it's a BIG MISTAKE to not to. I mean, the Tarot was INVENTED for that use!!!
This is another topic (and? It is! See me in the link):

I'm sorry, but (you guess it . . .)
I'm gonna have to get back to this . . .

. . . not that "mine do," much, to anyone, anyway!
Okay. So, the cards are alined, so:
--7 of Pentacles--10 of Pentacles--Page of Cups--
In a 3 Card Spread (not that this is "a difference" for any other "spread," but ???) MUCH ATTENTION must be paid to even the most MINOR and REMOTEST of "signs" and "details," &c., like:
--Which "direction" is the Court Cards "facing?" I mean, to "whom" or What Cards is s/he "looking" at? Does it/that "matter?" Maybe . . . (You tell me!)
--What's "the majority" of suits & numbers and . . . We've TWO Pentacles, here. What does THAT "mean?"
--We've a SEVEN & a TEN . . . So? So, right off the bat SEVENS (to me, and, I know, Soulsong, that you're not going to "come up" w/these--"my"--connotations, and? I'm not asking you too! They arrive over TIME and you'll have different "feelings" and meanings as you go) "mean" CHOICES and LESSONS; and TENS are "The Ultimate" of whatever Suit the card is in, and Pentacles are Earth, and Earth is . . . See? I could go on-and-on.
("Somebody, anybody, some where, stop him!!!")
Add them up and we arrive at: SEVENTEEN. So? What does THAT "mean," to you, if anything? To me--"off the top of my head"--I immediately think of #17/The Star, which "means" the 28 Path on The Tree of Life as well as . . . See?
The Question is: "What does 'it' mean, to Y.O.U.?"
--The 7 of Pentacles "means" Success Unfulfilled:
--The 10 of Pentacles "means" Wealth:
--The Page of Cups "means" . . . well, Pages, Princes, Knights almost "always" mean MESSENGERS, to me (that's why it's important to "see" to whm and where and which DIRECTION that they're "looking," see?) as well as the Four Qabalistic Worlds, &c, "On-and-on-and-ONNNnnnnnnn, ya know?
Here's yet another "Free Tip" (just kidding!) regarding Court Cards:
I was taught that if there're TWO of ANY OF THEM that that "means" that people in the querant's life are "talking about them;" THREE "means" that people in the Q's life are "arguing about them;" FOUR or more "means" that . . . are after the Q's "Attention," and, moreover, that this "attention" is most usually regarding LOVE in some way, shape, or entity!
And? In this reading the Page of Cups is Most Definately THE "Love Card," is it not?
It is.
But, alas, in "Answer to my Question's Outcome," alas, I spent--by choice; I had two "offers"--ALONE.
But, as I mentioned in my post of last evening, below, that doesn't really matter, here, now . . .
Let me post this and get to The Positions in my next . . .
