For the first time last night, I watched the TV show, "Charmed".

I realized that there are several TV show running now that are about the occult, witches and the sort.

What is your opinion on these shows? Do they show witches is a good light, bad light, inaccurrately?

They only show the stuff like magic etc. I really hate commercialisism of these kinds. now we get stuff like 'oh yeah I've seen the Craft and i wonna be a witch too'... stupid imho.

Actully, I like Charmed, Buffy and I liked the Craft as well. I like shows about the Occult. I don't like the image they give out sometimes, but I love watching them.

I've watched Charm a few times & it was entertaining. We saw the Craft a few weeks ago. Mainly it was because I've heard it mentioned so many times here. I really enjoyed it. I can see now how it can be appealing for people. I saw a kid's show on witches the other night on YTV. It was about a young witch going to witch school. I didn't catch the title of the show but I'll like to see if I can find it again.

You can't expect an accurate portrayal in the media. I mean, my life would be pretty boring as a TV show. I'm just happy that we're not painted as green-faced, evil hags! :D

I think all those shows are entertaining. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, for example, features a witch character, and it's one of my favorite shows. I think they're fun. Practical Magic, The Craft... harmless fun. :)

I agree with loopy. These shows and movies are provided for entertainment. If they raise interest, then I hope if the person is supposed to learn more they will, and if not, they won't muck up their life or anything before they get bored of it... Then again, that could be one of their lessons here, so who knows? :)

Witchy shows...

Buffy T.V.S. - Tara(Hey, that's my name!!!), and Willow help Buffy fight "the forces of darkness". A very good show in my opinion.

Angel - Almost as good as Buffy T.V.S.
Not too many witches.

Sabrina - Too too silly.

Charmed - Too many white-lighters, and evil warlocks for my taste. But generally sheds a positive light on witches.

Hocus Pocus(movie)- Even though the witches were the classical broom-riding, children-eating witches, I really liked it - very entertaining.

The trend nowadays seems to be to have witches fighting evil.

The only movies that really portray witches maliciously are those old 70's occult movies. ugh!

I happen to like "Charmed" (Good riddance Shannen Doherty, imho), like how they portray the character of Willow on "Buffy" (the most realistic representation of a modern Pagan... PLUS she provided me with one of my fave sayings, "Wanna-Blessed-Bes" LOL)

I do agree that some of these television shows and movies have filled several young men and women with misinformation ( A common question I get is "Do you worship Manon like the girls in "The Craft"?) But I think that as long as there are forums such as this for people to come and be able to ask questions without being chided and made fun of, we can enlighten them on how this path is not the easiest, that is take a lot of study and diligence... it is a never ending journey (no pun intended)

TV viewers want shows that can represent who they are.. whether dramatically or in jest... high school students most likely enjoy "Dawson's Creek".. although their everyday lives are NOTHING like that. Police Officers most likely enjoy "NYPD Blue"...though their day to day work fails to compare. Myself, as a Pagan, enjoy looking at "Charmed".. because there are women who are similar to me... (And you have to give to show props for having Phoebe actually socialize with other Wiccans so that they can learn what was not given to them "at birth"... very wise!)
I laugh, I root them on as they fight the bad guys.... drool over the good-looking men;) Its not a realistic show... but it is not intended to be... its fantasy!:D :D :D :D

I think the show you were talking about was "The Worse Witch".. the original was actually made in the early 80s starring Fairuza Balk (who played Nancy in "The Craft"). I know they originally made a remake, but if the one you watched was with Charlotte Rae (Mrs Garrett from "The Facts of Life") that was the early version.:D

I loved the "Sabrina" comics as a kid.
