What is the best way to find a patron? I heard that you can either just wait (I have been waiting) or do a meditation. I have tried meditation many times and I am just not good at it. Things just keep popping into my head and I don't even notice until 10 minutes have passed that I have been thinking about something. And a lot of the time I get tired and almost fall asleep. If you were to do a finding a patron meditation how would you go about doing it? Are you supposed to cast a circle? Is there anything special I need? I have never done this before.
Well medidation can be used to "become selfless", organize thoughts and understand them, and other things.
If you are having trouble with thinking about things, how about try to think about things and look at them, viewing them in every way and figuring out the inner message, maybe they can help you, this is one of the ways of mediditation, try this before medidating without thoughts.
Blessed Be

It has been my experience that they will find you, not the other way around. My advice would be to research the many different pantheons, and see which one really calls to you. Chances are, one or two or maybe more will stand out...and then, chances are, they will make their presence known to you, at some point. Be patient!

Hi Scarlet! If you go to the stuck thread at the top of this forum, the God and Goddess Portal, there's a thread on how to find a patron there. You might find it to be helpful to read other thoughts on this issue.

When I think of a Patron God or Matron Goddess, I think of a God or Goddess who has taken such interest in you that you become imbued with or at least very attracted to His or Her qualities. When I first started becoming interested in a polytheistic worldview, I didn't really have a grasp of what a Patron God is... but there were a few deities who I just found huge personality connections with. After I got out of eclectic faith and wanted to reconstruct something, I tried to reconstruct at least three ancient cultures, but I kept "cheating" on them with one God because we were just so damned compatible with each other that I kept coming back to Him. I think this was more noticable for me because I was trying to avoid who my Patron God is (due to the perceptions of other people), but I think the concept is the same.
On meditation... I think all too often Patron meditations are done by people who feel they need an answer now, and I personally don't think this is the case in the slightest. It really depends on what your tradition or religion is. Your profile says eclectic pagan... so really, if you want to do a meditation there is nothing you have to do. Were I in the same situation and wanted to find a Patron/Matron quicker, I'd probably be more likely to do research and find a god compatible with me than try and meditate on it.

I'm sorry... How do you cheat on a god? I don't think of the gods as being Jelious (sp?)......

When you are chosen by a deity, and they become your "patron", you in effect have become both their priest and their adopted child. You can see them out all you want, you can put up a big metaphysical ad that says "Wanted: One Divine Parent! Willing to honour you and serve at your altar for LIFE!"" (which is effectively what it is), but there's no guarantee that it's gonna work.
Bottom line - they'll choose you when they want you. They'll what you when you have the right set of skills, ability, personality, and experience they're looking for. Could be next week, could be years. You can put yourself out there as much as you like, meditating, ritualizing, etc. - but like walking the sidewalk with a resume, they won't be interested until they see what they're looking for.
It's a very large committment, because when they want something of you you can't just blow them off. They will treat you as a beloved son or daughter, but you better believe that you have your own duties to them and those that don't fufill them get a small piece of their deity's mind.
Perhaps your Gods aren't, but some Gods certainly are jealous when their kids work with others. The Morrigan is highly displeased, when I work with other pantheons and She feels I haven't been paying enough attention to Her. I think it really depends on the disposition of the deity in question.

That's so true. In my case, it happened on it's own because of all the things I've gone through in the past few years. A lot of things built up to me finding out that Freya is mine, and many of them were really ironic.
