Has anyone ever participated in an online ritual?
I would like to be able to have an online ritual in a chat room, but while I know it's been done before I don't have a clue how to do it.
Can anyone help me out?

Hmm...someone else will have to help you on this one. I have heard of this done...quite a bit actually. In fact, I know of some 'online' covens. But I dont know how they are performed.
I am sure someone else here does... ???

The members of my group are scattered all over the East Coast ~ and we have a few members/supporters on the West Coast ~ so it's impossible for us all to be physically together for ritual, or for much anything else. The group was doing our rituals and celebrations Solitary and then getting together online to chat about them sometimes (we have weekly online Study), but then came time for an Initiation. That changed how we do things quite a bit ... You see, a Gwyddon knows the ways and means of his time. :D
The Initiation Candidate was/is located in New England ~ too far a stretch to come to Kentucky for an Initiation (we require that you come to the home College for at least your First) ~ so I asked if she had a couple of friends who were not interested in the Order, who she trusted absolutely, etc and so forth, who could help her with the ritual. She did, so we picked a date and went from there. We opened our chatroom with her and her Helper up North, and me and the HP here.
Keeping in mind that we have a very set ritual pattern and that our rituals aren't as dramatic and long-winded (grin) as some other groups & traditions, this is the pattern we've come up with for our online rituals ~
~ Everyone prepares his sacred space and himself.
~ Open the chatroom and wait for everyone to file in. (I give everyone 15 minutes leeway)
~ Individually, we do our Circle Erection and our First Preliminary (basically an elemental call). We return to the computer and say, "Okay" or something similar.
~ Individually, we do our Second Preliminary (the wine blessing). We return to the computer and say, "Okay" or something similar.
~ Then comes the main body of the ritual. We've assigned parts as necessary beforehand. We type in our "spoken" parts and make any necessary motions.
~ Then we break long enough to run grab our God Feast and regroup in the chatroom to Study or gab while we Feast.
The energies are totally incredible. ;-)
Note: As I said before, this is the pattern that works for us; this pattern may not work for every group, as we're all different and have different ritualist goals.

Actually that's quite helpful.... and the more I hear about Gwyddon the more I think I should be one....
Anyway, as I was saying... that was really helpful. What I was most stumped about was how to prepare the space, etc.... cast a circle around my computer... hehe :)
Thanks again!

You're quite welcome. I've been Gwyddon for a while and been on the Internet for years ~ but until January, I'd never considered online ritual. Funny, huh? LOL!:D

I've participate in on-line rituals before with an Egyptian Recreationist group I was a part of for a while. It was actually quite intense, and involved purifying yourself, your space, and your computer before hand. Then step by step directions were given by the leader of the ritual. It was really interesting.

If you purified yourself and your space, wouldn't that include the computer? And just curious, how did you purify the computer?

Well, they have special ceremonies to consecrate altar tools, and in this case, the computer was the tool, hence it needed special consideration beyond just the space itself. Anyhow, the purification of the computer was pretty simple, a quick chant and touching the screen with salt-water.

Okie. :D Thanks for the clarification. Even though I'm an Elder in my Tradition, the way other people/groups do things sometimes baffles me. Learning is a good thing! :D

Oh ditto, ditto! Sometimes I just assume everyone understands exactly what I mean when I say something. Silly me! ;)

I ran a virtual ritual last night. It was our only way of being together as foot and mouth has gripped the British countryside.
What we did was post a general outline of what will be happening when, and used this as a general marker/signpost to enable companionship. Rituals were done individually, to a rough timetable. At certain times, we posted what happened (eg quarters) to enable those who were new to understand what was going on. It helped those who felt alone to have company as they did their rites.
There were over 100 people on the email list that participated.
