Hello all.

As of right now, I'm (for lack of a better term) Christian but with an open mind. I was wondering, how do I find a God or Goddess? How do I connect to them? I've studied roman/greek and norse mythology, if that makes any difference.

Is there any manual for this? ;)

I read up on them. I found something that relates to me and is appealing. Then I expounded. Hope that helps. Also there is a lot of information on the New Pagan threads too.

Well, the best thing you can really do is just learn as much as you can, and wait to see if someone claims you, or at least thats what I did.

Hehe, that makes me think of like an auctioneer and a platform with you standing on it and gods and goddesses with little paddle-looking things with numbers bidding on you...::chuckles:: :hehehehe: I've been claimed! Have you?

Read a lot. Study everything. Do some basic ritual. You'll feel the right path. Pursue that path. Deity/spirit/etc will make itself known to you.

well, I'm a Christian witch, myself, and my Goddess sorta smacked me upside the head nice & hard to get my attention! lol As for a God....I just pray to God, or to Spirit, b/c I haven't really, ya know...found a specific name or identity that really has pulled me.

Basically learn what you can, read a lot, and one will jump out at you that you will feel drawn to. It's kinda like falling in love--it usually happens when you least expect it.

i totally agree.. when you come across the right goddess or god they will call to you.. you will 'just know'.. its a bit like when you go into a shop and you see a necklace or crystal and you just cant walk out of the shop without buying it ..( well thats the best way i can describe the feeling)

then again, as Homer said...

"... it is by no means to everyone that the gods grant a clear sight of themselves."

Theres brings up a good point. Not everyone is going to have the same type of relationship with the Holy Ones. Some people will have deep, highly personal relationships with just one or two deities that they refer to as their patrons. Other people will never find one particular deity to focus on and will honor a general God/Goddess. Other people will find that while they are called to worship a select pantheon of gods, they won't be called to them as a dedicant in the same fashion that a patron calls their priests and priestesses.

My advice don't worry about finding that perfect god for you. If you want to get to know the Holy Ones then research and read their mythologies. Study the cultures they spring from. Pray, participate in ritual activities. If a deity wishes to call you into their service it will happen, if they don't then don't worry about it. It doesn't in any way prevent you from worshipping or honoring them.

It was actually quite different from me. I was "called" for lack of a better word. I wasn't actively researching deities at the time and just saw one that clicked.

I have a bunch of God/esses that I'm really drawn to now, but only one has actually made itself known to me (as in a thread I posted a couple days ago). I'm still not 100% sure is this God actually wants to become my patron or not, but he's kind of taken the place of the Chrisitian God I once (thought so, anyways) looked up to. But the nice thing about it all is that I can worship him in the way I feel is most appropriate, and still respect ALL the other living personalities, and look to them for support also.

Hi Taurwen

*looks at avatar* It's Plank! heheh.

Aaannyway.. As for "finding" a god or goddess.. well.. I think they generally find you :)
I was agnostic for about 7 years and a few months ago I started feeling like I was going insane. I was moody, sensitive and my mind was in constant turmoil. I had no idea why of course.. (apparently it took a lot to get me heading in the right direction :D)
Then I felt drawn to ancient egypt in a different sort of way.. I was no longer just in awe of it, but actually wanted to be part of it.
Next thing I knew I had a tall, attractive, jackal headed fella wandering around my room (and my head) and practically following me everywhere. Smirking at me from the shadows! This was a bit of a shock to my poor skeptical mind ;) But it was nice having someone prodding me in the right direction after feeling lost for so long.

anyway. I'll stop rambling about that and get to telling you how I got to building a relationship with Yinepu (anubis), seeing as I didn't want Him lurking about smirking at me for the rest of my life..

Firstly, as everyone's been saying, research research research! You'll find yourself more interested in certain deities. Follow that up! At a time when you're inviting divinity into your life you really need to keep an open mind and trust your instincts (hehe..). Don't overlook everything as a "coincidence", recently I've found that more often than not, there're no coincidences with this kind of thing.

Pay attention. Get out in nature.. or somewhere relaxing. meditate. spend time pondering on exactly who a deity is (if you have a particular one in mind). open your mind. and it's also good to somehow put out in the universe an invitation to divinity in general. If the question is out there and your mind is quiet enough to listen, then they will come to you.

Sorry about the lengthy post, but I so love having divinity in my life that I want others to experience it too :)

Good luck!

Senebty! (may you be healthy)
