after much hard work, a ton of testing and a horrid IEP process, but with the goddess smiling my son got a great 1st grade teacher. My son actually made the honor roll in 1st grade with something like 7As and 2Bs and NO checkmarks. He received positive comments from his teacher and his special services teachers. He has not needed 95% of the academic help we wrote into his IEP for him. He has not only learned to read and reads everything, but scored 100 on every spelling test. O.k. so it's only 5 words a week but still... And though he continues to need reduced homework, his fine motor skills for handwriting are so improved there is hope he will be able to grow into a normal workload. Still for test taking we simply have to wait to see how he can perform.
He is taking martial arts and art classes this year so far and we will be reducing his private OT come January.
