Upright Pentacle/Pentagram
Upright pentacles and pentagrams are among the most widely used religious symbols. They have been used in many eras and by many cultures and religions of the world: by ancient Peoples, ancient Israelites, Christians, magicians, Wiccans and others.

Major snippage by Xentor

Many religious and spiritual groups use the pentacle or pentagram today.

The pentagram (the star, basically) is also used in the Onmyou culture (a Japanese 'priest' religion). It joins all the elements together, and works with a give-take. Each point is one element (earth, water, fire, wood, and ash, I think?), and each cancels one out or creates another. Examples: fire and wood make ash, and water cancels out fire). Anyhow, I doubt the elements I used are correct, but you can look it up online.

Didn't the pentagram principaly come from the Quabbalah? Also, by defintion a pentragram is simply "a five-pointed star, often held to have magical or mystical significance, formed by five straight lines connecting the vertices of a pentagon and enclosing another pentagon in the completed figure." (dictionary.com)... THUS, there's no such thing as an "upright" or "upsidedown" one.

Just some arguments from some local Ottawa-Gatineau Paganusae.

Peace and Love!
