Also known as Traditional Satanism dosen't seem to be dealt with much on this web site. I just read the poll "Is Satanism Pagan" (all 14 exhaustive pages of it, forgive me if I missed something and repeat a part), it seems that most people here believe Satanism to only refer to LeVayen Satanism (Modern Satanism).
Religious Satanism does worship Satan, but not the Xtian Satan, as it predates christianity by several thousand years, so its not simply "reactionary" as some have dismissed it as. It holds its roots in the religions of the Yezidi and in many cases the Snake Worshippers of Egypt.
It not only has been claimed to predate any Judeo/Xtian/Islamic religion, but some have gone as far as to say that it may predate Paganism (please don't scold me for that, who came first I hope isn't too big of an issue).
Getting back to the point...here is a quote from http://www.meta-religion.com/Esoterism/Satanism/satanism.htm
"It is important to realize that the Satan that they recognize has few if any points of similarity with the Christian concept of Satan. The Satanists' concept of Satan is pre-Christian, and derived from the Pagan image of power, virility, sexuality and sensuality. To most Satanists, Satan is a force of nature, not a living quasi-deity. Their Satan has nothing to do with Hell, demons, pitchforks and profound evil. They have occasionally engaged in a Black Mass for publicity purposes, in which the Roman Catholic Mass is ridiculed. But, otherwise, their rituals have no connection to Christian rituals."
At this I would definately consider them pagan. If you are at all intrigued at this please see http://www.angelfire.com/empire/serpentis666/TRADITIONAL.html
If you have any questions please ask me and I'll try to get back to you. I am by know means an expert in...anything...but I'd be happy to find people who are to answer whatever you may need to know about this subject.
At that I am just really dissappointed at the lack of information on the subject I've found about this on this site. If I just missed it I'm obviously an idiot, but please be kind enough to just point me in the right direction.
