Greetings Everyone!

I have an experience from decades ago that's always puzzled me, and I'd love input on.

When just a teenager, I stumbled onto a book in our library about tarot. It went into great detail on the cards: the history, meanings, layouts...and even how to convert a regular deck of cards into an abbreviated deck to do readings.

Well, I found this odd at the time, being a completely Christian household and all. (To backtrack for a minute...the book belonged to my Mother...at one time she had been very into magic and spellcasting.) Being a curious youngster...I instantly grabbed ahold of an old deck of playing cards and commenced to learning and doing tarot readings. My goodness it was accurate...scarily so! My Mother was both delighted and upset at the accuracy of the cards.

At the first opportunity, I purchased a deck of Rider from a mall bookstore and then REALLY got into it. Around this time, "odd" things started happening in our house. I can't honestly remember what they were and to this day i wonder if they weren't "made up." I do remember a big fuss however, and the cards being blamed.

The odd occurances gave my parents the weapon needed to demand that I get rid of the deck (delight at my readings and interest ...rapidly had turned to scorn and disapproval...and let me tell you, you DID NOT want disapproval from my folks!!!). I was told that I had to get rid of them, and that only burning them would do.

So, with deck in hand I proceded to our patio BBQ grill and sadly tried to set them on fire. Nothing. Tried again...wouldn't even get hot. Hmmm. Now I'm curious. I grabbed newspaper and lit that...set the deck on....nothing. This went on for awhile and my Mother popped out to see if I had accomplished my task. Lighter fluid was suggested.

Okie dokie then...I soaked the deck and lit them. Flames flared up and ignited what was left of the newspaper I had origionally put in...and engulfed the deck of tarot.

For several minutes...I could not see any changes to my deck. Eventually, I noticed a dark dot in the very middle of the deck..top card. This grew before my eyes into a circle about the size of a nickel. Long story short...the deck would not burn.

Upon examination....the underside of the deck was mostly untouched..edges of the deck were slightly brownish...and of course the scorched circle in the middle...but, other than that...nada.

--------

Of course now....I'm all grown up :D and have been gifted with a wonderful deck by a dear friend. I've only recently been drawn back to the tarot (or more accurately, I've always yearned to have a deck again but, only recently allowed myself to have a deck and get back into it)....and I've been inundated by "finds" at antique malls & such. Tarot reading materials everywhere I look!! Neat!

I still cannot forget however, that experience...

I still feel guilty about it too, like I did something horribly wrong.

Would love your ideas and thoughts. :)

Blessings!

Iora

That's certainly strange, and always looking for magickal reasons behind things, do you still have these cards? Because they may have been your connection, something that linked you to the magickal world, refusing to release their hold, knowing you would find your place as a witch. That could be completely off...but thats what it seems to me...:)
