Women who kick @$$ will be gathering at the Vancouver
Trade and Convention Centre this September 22nd, competing
at the first FemSport Valkyrie Fest.
The Vancouver Sports Model Quest is for women who want to
show off their power and grace, but don't have the dance or
gymnastics background for the acrobatic dance routines of
fitness competitions.
The scoring will be evenly split between a strength and
endurance round, matching the balance that these women have
to strike between power and glamour. Critics who say this isn't
a real sport should see how many times they can dip their own
body weight in two minutes or how far they can carry two five-
gallon water buckets and then try hitting the mandatory poses
perfectly.
The competitors, mostly from B.C., include personal trainers,
amateur boxers, martial artists, body-builders and a world
champion power-lifter. Many of them have hit age limits in their
original sports, like gymnastics or track and field, but continue
to compete in these events, demonstrating the long, self-
disciplined hours they've logged in the gym.
As competitor Deanna Law, a single mother and personal trainer,
says, "We want to show off our muscles too."
Competition starts at 4 PM.
