If you are Satanist, what type are you?If not on the poll please explain.
The reason for posting the different brances Of LaVeyanSatanist and the others is to see what branch people follow.....Not to point out differences of philosophies.

I'm COS, but the thing is, the "first" Church of Satan (which is NOT the first) and the others were cast-offs of LaVey's philosophy that were changed, one of which was started by his estranged daughter Karla. I admittedly would have to research them more before claiming them "LaVeyan". They are "mutated" forms of his teachings.

I'm not a Satanist (though I do know one or two and they rawk from what I've heard :)), but I was reading your poll and I was just wondering... What's the difference between LeVeyan(Church of Satan), LeVeyan(First Church of Satan), and LeVeyan(First Satanic Church)?

After reading over these sites, and discussing it with my grotto, I have come to this summaraization of the three.
Church of Satan - The original and purest form, the FIRST, as it was created by LaVey.
The "First" Church of Satan - Run by a man who shadowed LAVey in early life, then after death began his own church which he claims is less "elitist" and more in line with Aleister Crowly. He also believes that his "followers" can either beleive in Satan, or not.
He states:
"The current Church of Satan really does NOT subscribe to the democratic form of sovereignty-for-all that the original CoS, via Aleister Crowley, embraced. Instead, the fading, threatened CoS is now reduced to babbling inanely and disdainfully about "elitism" and "eliteness," terms which in their view apply exclusively to their own ever-shrinking membership under hapless current High Priest Peter Gilmore."
The First Satanic Church was in fact, created by spite. LaVey's daughter Karla denounced her Father and ignored him for the majority of his life, and became angered when after death the leadership was passed onto his secretary-and lover-Blanche Barton. His other daughter, Zeenia, after years of dabbling with the temple of Set, which her Father despised, calimed him her "un-father." While Karla created her own church in her Father's teaching after the legal battles over the COS.
They state:
"The First Satanic Church was formed on October 31, 1999 by Karla LaVey, Anton LaVey's daughter and founding member of the Church of Satan. We were established due to the lack of a Satanic presence and are dedicated to the study of Satanism and the occult sciences. "

BTW, it's LaVeyan, all.
Sorry if you find it annoying for me to point it out :) It's just that I wouldn't go around calling people Wickans and Pegans expecting people to not correct me :)

Oh, and if I were going to lay claim to any of them, I'd simply say LaVeyan rather then pointing to any organization or group. The organizations and communities seem a lil too dramatic too me, I'm not really interested in the gossiping and insulting between groups.

Awww, but that doesn't sound like any fun! Ignoring all the nonsense would leave far too much time for individualism and productivity. I didn't vote, because there wasn't really an option for me. But I would say that LaVey's teachings make up a good 50% of my belief system.

None, though I do have strong Satanic influences, mostly in my beliefs and less so in my actual craft.

I voted "LaVeyan (No Affiliation)" and "other." I am not a Satanist, per se, however, I do agree with a large portion of the teachings.

None.
Like Raven, there are Satanic influences incorporated in my belief system, but I am more strongly influenced by Hoodoo in my practice.

Theistic, no affiliation (though definetly influenced by the Church of Azazel).

Thanks for sharing. However, I may have misread - I only saw the CoS and FCoS there -> 2, rather then 3. Or have I missed a part?
How do they differ in belief and practice?

Im not positive but from what I know two of the main reasons for the splits was because the COS was becoming to atheistic and elitist. But I am sure there were some personal reasons also. :blech:

While I certainly share some of LaVey's philosophies, I would have to say that I've been influenced a good bit by Diane Vera's writings and to a lesser degree those of Michael Aquino. I'll have to go with Theistic.

I'm dabbling in LeVeyan Satanism, however I'm not a member of any one. I would like to join the Church of Satan when I'm legal as I would never get permission. o_o; Yeah, your boards pretty much converted me. AS it was what I thought beforehand. So yeah.

I put none of the above. I started out as LaVeyan, but eventually found my own unique path.

I voted None of the Above and Other. I've looked into LeVeyan (Church of Satan) and believe in a lot of it's philosophies, but I don't necessarily practice them. And I also realize that by doing so it would be very rude and disrespectful for me to claim that I am a Satanist.
Therefore, when asked, I explain that I'm an Animsitic eclectic Pagan with Satanistic beliefs.
