....If there was a true Pagan t.v. series. Like a few family's or just people and the story of their everyday Witch lives. Like you know how regular t.v. programs always have a "holiday episode" or when they celebrate certain holidays...wouldn't it be great if the Pagan series celebrated Yule and Samhain? I wish I worked in t.v. sometimes. But, seriously...and do you all have any great ideas...maybe someone here works in television and they can take this to their producers...or something...at least it's fun to think about....lol. Blessed Be to all this Yule season.

What a Fascinating idea..and yes it would be AWESOME... I mean, We have like..Sabrina the Teenage Witch now...and..that is so far from real its discusting.. I mean, its fun to watch..but it gives people the wrong impression of what a real witch is you know..Real witches dont just snap their fingers and drive off in a ferrari...lol I mean, I think this would be an excellent Idea..hopefully someday we will see this on Tv!!

besides, it wouldn't get good ratings. honestly, the average lives of pagan people would be just as interesting as watching regular cathloc people, or regular christian people. its not interestign to watch at all.

I'd dig it if it was a PBS type thing. Any other network and it'd eventually succumb to bad plot twists and two dimensional characters.

It could work, it could work easily, but it couldn't be so obvious. First off there would just be pagan characters on a show, like how they slowly integrated homosexuality into television. Now theres tons of shows spotlighting homosexuality, perhaps some day there could be shows like "growing up pagan" or "How to throw the best Sabbats" you never know. But the only way to get this to work is slow and steady, not just some random show about pagan people.

I like the idea - it might very well clear up some of the misconceptions out there. I really like the idea about the specific holiday episodes. You could even do something just within the pagan community - have one episode that shows the different traditions in Reiki, Wicca, etc. I would really be interested in seeing that!

Well, they've said they're not going to do another series of the Osbornes...
Why not write in and offer your family up as a replacement!

I have a bit of good news...last year, and it will most likely be repeated this year, among the "Holiday-themed" kid's shows on Noggin, was an episode of 'Little Bear" in which the characters celebrated the Winter Solstice. It was done pretty well, and my daughter enjoyed it, in addition to the more Christmas oriented Dora the Explorer and Blue's Clues.
I was thinking the same things as some previous posts mentioned, that it would be great to start, to just have a single character in an ensemble (sp?) cast that happened to be Pagan, and that was just portrayed as a normal part of their life. I have been noticing very very small things on shows, like on CSI Miami, there was a family who had a sister who placed an Amber Necklace over the baby's crib for protection. But generally, not much.
The thing that always bothers me or seems to be the failing of many TV shows is that rather than simply having a black, gay, magickal or whatever, character, they feel that has to be the focus of the show in order for it to work....I have started to notice more movies though where the fact that a character is black, for instance, is not the point, but merely a fact and that gives me hope that perhaps this trend will continue to include other minorities and minorty ideas.

For those of you who don't know, this is already in the works, headlined by Boogins. Go to this subforum (in the entertainment forum), http://www.mysticwicks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=119, to read about what's going on.

A REAL pagan show?
I only wish!!
We all know those 'blind' followers of other religions would scream foul!
Then makes threats of god against the network for showing it. http://67.15.36.42/mw/images/smilies2/shakemitkopf.gif
It would be a good idea though. http://67.15.36.42/mw/images/smilies2/scratchchin.gif

I think a *multi-faith* religious station would be neat, but one of the things I believe makes neopaganism a more progressive belief movement is that many paths (...well, not all the time) recognise that all religions are important and can be learned from. I dunno, I think getting one's news/entertainment from only one general religious perspective borders on letting your faith take over your life... and we all know where that leads. I guess I think religion should stay in religion, and not in the media... and by extension the government and other societally influential institutions.
Plus, I mean, how much money would they honestly make showing people traipsing about the woods looking for belladonna or sitting there in meditation. Paganism takes a lot of patience to practice... and probably infinitely more to observe. I know I wouldn't want to... I can't imagine incorporating something as impersonal as television into my connection with the gods.

You know, I wonder if we're on our way? Just today, I heard on the radio that Morgan, the guy who did "Super-Size Me" (documentary about McD's) is working on making a reality tv show for FX, and the first season is going to be about a Christian salesman who goes to live with a Muslim family.
Who knows... maybe it's just around the bend? I'm keeping my eyes peeled for that show, though!

It'd be cool but it wouldn't fly in this area. Our cable tv station would boycott it.

Yeah, they'd probably try to black it out here or something stupid like that.

Even better you know how they have those Christian channels, how about a pagan channel? It could feature the stories of the various pagan diversities. It would be a step anyway. :)

There is a television station, Wisdom Network (http://www.wisdomnetwork.com/), that deals with a lot of issues that neo-pagans are interested in. There are shows about yoga, meditation, alternative medicine, and more. The station itself is probably more new-age than neo-pagan, but it is interesting. Such companies as Comcast (though in my experience it is only available on digital cable packages) and Dish Network carry it. You can also listen to them on Sirius Satelite radio or on the internet, which is linked on their website I posted above.
