I need to find some information on the bronze winged pionous. It's a South American native bird. I'm having a hard time finding anything and I KNOW how good you all are at finding things! So... please, please, please help me.

Thanks in advance!

This is a very difficult birdie to track down.

All I learned so far is that it's scientific name is Pionous chalcopterus, and farmers have observed them eating the fruit, bark, flowers and shoots of various trees, including the wax palm.

Here are two pics:

from this site: http://www.upatsix.com/faq/pionus.htm

Which also has some main info about all the species within the Pionous genus.

Ooh, just found a website from someone who owns a bunch of Pionites:

Aside from my own birds, I feel the Bronze Winged Pionus (Pionus chalcopterus) is the most beautiful. These birds are 11 inches long, and their plumage appears to be a subtle violet-blue. However, their wings are dusted with bronze, and a shading of pink, purple-blue, and bronze-green covers the body. Their beak is horn colored, and their legs are light brown to pink. Like most pionus, the immature birds have much less color.

Bronze Wings are not quite as wide spread in the pet trade, but these birds are well worth the hunt. You can purchase a Bronze Wing from $300-$850.

I think that may be the only part specific to the bronze-wings, but here's the page: http://www.birdsnways.com/wisdom/ww33eii.htm
if you want to double-check yourself.

That's all I could dig up for now; hope it's helpful in the least. :) Are you in the market for a pet? :):)
