New Aeon books is an absolute must. It's on Oldham Street and also sells magical supplies, if you walk into town from Piccadilly Station it's one of the streets on the right just before you hit the main shopping street. It's quite a way down the street on the left but you can't miss it as it has a whacking great big pentacle sign hanging outside. They also do workshops and talks but I don't have much info on thoses at the mo so chat to the owner. He's really helpful if you are looking for something specific.

There is also Affleck's Palace (go down the side street inbetween Debenhams and Starbucks) that has various different shops - soma pagan some not, but you'll like it. Waterstones on Deansgate (the big one) has a large pagan section on the top floor, it all comes under Mind, Body and Spirit I think and is near the religion section.

You can get some pagan books quite cheaply in The Works in the Arndale centre, just upstairs from the main square (it has a whacking great big crimbo tree in it at the mo so you can't miss it). A lot of these books tend to be more commercialised for the masses but you can occasionally get a few interesting texts there.

Just an aside, I know Magick_Faerie has been in touch regarding a Manchester meetup on the 11th. We will be doing a tour of all these places as part of it so if you want to come along with us you'd be more than welcome. It's just a social gathering, a bit of a guided tour around some of the pagan shops in Manchester and maybe a spot of lunch, we're not interested in who does what or what experiences they have, it's just a bit of a hello and get to know you kind of thing so people can at least speak to other pagans rather than feel isolated. If you fancy it don't be shy as none of us have ever met before and are all in the same boat.

I was in manchester for 5 years at uni so i know the area quite well.

Id certainly recommend Afflecks Palace, the place is full of all sorts of wonderful things so i think you might find something u liked. Also has a totally crazy layout, been lost in there many times wondering where on earth i actually got in :p

:rollinglaThat's happened to me too!

There is also another shop in Liverpool which is similar (although not as good as it was 8 years ago) called Quiggins, walk down the side street inbetween Littlewoods and Burtons (towards Bluecoat Chambers), turn right and it's just at the end of that block on the left. Not as big as Affleck's but still has a variety of shops.

Haven't been to liverpool much but if im in the area, i will definitely check it out :). I love that sort of thing, totally uncommercialised and loads of little shops with stuff for all sorts of different tastes, its fun just exploring the place :)

Where are you living now? Is there anything like Affleck's where you are? I found something similar in Leeds and then again in Sheffield.

Just finished my uni life so living near Hull atm with my parents till i find work. Totally new to the area (parents only moved here a year ago), but my impressions are bad so far and haven't found anything like Afflecks near me yet unfortunately :sadman:

Guess i was a bit spoilt by so many different things on offer in manchester :p

Ew, Hull was my second choice (I went to Durham), when I went for the open day it just looked so grim and I knew there was no way I could live there for 4 years. I got the impression there was quite a large alternative culture there but I suppose that was 6 years ago so it may have changed. A friend of mine lives over that way so i'll ask her if she knows if anything is going on in the pagan persuasion.

Thanks that would be great :) Haven't had chance to really investigate into it properly yet, i kinda get put off by the very run down feel of the place whenever i go into town but sure it must have something on offer. Not entirely sure where i stand spiritually btw, i just know christianity isn't for me and am basically totally open minded when it comes to other areas, so interested in finding out more really :)

I went to uni in Manchester for a couple of years too. I found a really nice shop, I can't remember if it was in Afleck's Palace, or the other place like it, can't remember what it was called. It could have been the Forum, but I'm not sure. There's a place in Sheffield called the Forum too, so I'm not sure whether I'm confusing the two. Whatever it's called, there were a few shops in there selling various magickal things, so I'm sure you'll find something.

Hi,

What's the other place called then, I think it was near Afflecks Palace, but it was big and square and with kiosk type shops all the way around. I think they had a cafe on the ground floor.

Oh, I've moved around so much, it all blends into one. *sigh*

That's the one - it was called the Colliseum (I think) and it was the Oasis (as in the band) cafe on the ground floor. It's long closed down unfortunatley.

Thank you! It was beginning to really bug me.

Shame it's gone. :( Shows how long it's been since I left Manchester.

I just moved back to the area after 6 years away and it was really strange seeing how much has changed. Affleck's is nowhere near as good as it was before I left.

I have a similar thing with Sheffield. I visit there because my family still live there, and everytime I go back there's a new shop or a new building. It's something about it being very familiar, and yet not quite the same. It's quite unsettling.
