The only reason I worked all those shifts, spending far too much time away from my wife and kids, especially the 11 and 12 hour shifts while I was sick was because with the overtime I would be able to afford to get the kids something nice for Yule and take our eldest Closy to see the Orthodontist, she's been on the waiting list for over a year and finally we were able to get an appointment for her.
Well I got my paycheque today and they didn't pay me for even one hour of overtime, and I worked a lot. Not only that but in the next 2 weeks they only shceduled me for only 30 hours total. So now we have just enough money to pay the rent from this paycheque and the next might give us enough to pay bills. But there will be no money for yule presents, orthodontist appointments or even groceries as it stands. I am waaaaay beyond furious now. :atantrum:
I'm looking for something new jobwise, even if it's just til christmas, but there's not much here.
Just thought I'd update you all.

I feel your pain. Hubby has been laid off for 4 weeks now..talked to his boss today, and we have another 2 weeks of no work to look forward to as well. I have $12 in the bank, kids to feed, and runnin low on food. Not to mention rent is due, I'm behind on utilities, and the car needs inspected.
MIL keeps asking 'what have you gotten the boys for Xmas so far???' That makes me want to rip my own head off.
Ya do what ya can. I just put in an application to bartend down the street, it'll be little money..but enough for groceries if I get it. It's a sucky time of year. The kids may not get presents...but if you can keep a roof over their heads and food in their tummies....you're doing something good.

Shouldn't your job provide you with some medical coverage...which should cover a lot of her ortho visits...?

Umm, aren't they legally obligated to pay you for hours worked? Sounds like you have a legal case there. I'd contact the labor department.

There are lots of places (like Burger King, for example) that have made it possible to have loopholes, so that they don't have to give their employees benefits or overtime payment.
For example, they put all of their employees on as part-time work. That way they don't have to give over-time or benefits, but they can still work your ass as hard as they want.
However, if you don't mind swimming through B.S., and there's a Wal-mart near you, I'd recommend it. They pay pretty well (at least around here), and they will work you to the bone. If you work Sundays or holidays, they give you time and a half. However, they will almost NEVER give you the days off that you request, unless you're not a cashier. They will also put you on cashier almost no matter what, even if you ask to be in a different department, and they will tell you that after six months, you can change to a different department. That's untrue. You can change departments any time you want (just threaten to leave).
They'll do their best to keep you from your family, but at least you'll get good money. I was getting about $1,000 a month working there. o.o

Damn, I'm sorry to hear you busted butt and the employer ripped you off. It's one of the things I've come to deeply dislike and disrespect about the current business culture. :flamer:
I hope you can find something that will help you purchase gifts for yule and I'm sorry you were treated so wretchedly too. :hugz:

No . It seems less and less businesses are doing this.

Astron would love to do that but the lawyer would cost money and we would have to travel to the next town to see one. Especially since the owner siad he would get overtime and then got nothing.

Uhm we live in Canada not the USA
As for Walmart that is also in the next town and the only position they were hiring was the Photo studio, which I applied for since Astron does not like doing that type of thing. The other issue even if we did get the job at Walmart being able to find affordable housing would be another issue.
Thanks everyone for the kind thoughts and suggestions I will let astron know when he gets home from work today to respond also to your comments :D Take care everyone.

Thanks everyone for being so supportive I'm going to try to talk to someone in the financial department and see what's going on. Also I am looking for new work, but I'm either inexperienced or way overqualified.

Pah. Overtime or not, he should still get paid straight time for all the hours worked.
Hey, is it possible you guys are payed on a delay, and it'll show up in your next check? I got paid Nov 30 for the hours I worked from Nov 1 to Nov 15.

Contacting the labor department (or Canada's equivalent) is free. You only need a lawyer if the labor department tells you they can't do anything. But you should make sure you can prove Astron worked those hours so when they ask for proof, you have it.

This is true. We did it to get wages that one of DH's former employers didn't want to pay (his last paycheck). We contacted the Texas Attorney General's office, we did it all on the phone. His ex-employer had to pay THEM, and then they paid us, though. So it took awhile.

I got paid Nov 30 for the hours I worked from Nov 1 to Nov 15. nope it should have been on this cheque, and gords boss told him to talk to the person who handles that stuff becuase he supposeldy did nto know why it was not on there ..gee I think this guy should learn to keep a better eye on his business.

But you should make sure you can prove Astron worked those hours so when they ask for proof, you have it. The Alberta Labour board has not been able to help us in the past over more serious things so I do not think they can help us with this honeslty. Well teh proof things is another sotry they donot always give hime a schdeule he can take home sometimes they some times they do not, and on top of that it still would not cover his over time on the days he had to work more then his shift. And the time sheet he signs at work no he cannot get a copy of so that would be it for the proof.
