**shakes head** Neeeeeeeed more sleep. The title of this thread gave me the mental image of little babies with weighted wrist and ankle bands Velcroed to them for some kind of weird baby excercise program.

My baby was 7 pounds 13 oz, and was 2 weeks early. His Shoulders also got stuck. (Shoulder Dystocia) I am due in 10 weeks with baby #2, and they dont want this baby to get too big (I am already measuring 3 weeks ahead!) So..I may be induced..or...Have a c-section.

my babies were small
1st was 5 lbs 14 oz
2nd was 4 lbs 11 oz
1st was right on schedule (just a day difference from the due date)
2nd the placenta stopped working so they induced and she was 3 weeks early. She actually gained weight in the hospital - the nurses said that she was born hungry! lol
The OB said that they go by the mother's birthweight to figure out what the baby would weigh - I was a 9 lb baby! (I have a really small frame and don't have much room between my rib cage and waist) When I told the doctor my birthweight, he took one look at me and said "Ain't no way that a 9 lb baby will fit in there!" ;)

Only about 5% of babies arrive on their DD. Births needs to be attended without stop watches.

London was 7 lbs 1 oz. She was a week 'late'.
Alex was 8 lbs 14 oz. I went into labor with him the night I was due and had him early the next morning.
Holden was 7 lbs 7 oz. I was due October 17 and went into labor September 30, having him October 1. I don't think he was early, though. I think I had my dates wrong, as I'd miscarried a few months before and my cycles weren't regular.

My EDD was Novemeber 5th (2003) and I delived on November 18th which was almost 2 weeks "late" although due dates are only estimates so we all felt that calling him late wasn't quite correct. Although when the midwife checked him out she said he was 41 weeks old based on some physical characteristics such as the amount of vernix on his skin and fattiness in certain areas. Very interesting!
He weighed 7 pounds even. Apparently baby's birth weight is somewhat dependant on the mom and dad's birth weight (not current weight). I was born at 6 lbs 13 oz and DH was 8 lbs.
If people are concerned about growing a too big baby you may want to ease up on the prenatal vitamins. According to my midwife if you eat well you may not need them and they can really plump a baby up! hehehe But talk to your healthcare provider first.

ok i got everyone beat but gaia ;) may i say...u go girl!
my first was my smallest at 9 lbs 4 oz, she was two days after her date, and i was torn from vagina to rectum. they told me she was too big.
the next baby was born on his due date (how considerate!) and weighed ten pounds even. he was born at home with noone in attandence but my husband and a friend as the doctor had left. i had a tear, but not straight thru this time despite his being heavier and shorter than his sister.
the next and last baby was 10 lbs 4 oz and gave me the LEAST tear. he was born at home with the assiatnce of midwives.
side note for mum worried about shoulder dystocia:most doctors dont move the mother onto her hands and knees when the baby gets stuck. doing this can get a baby unstuck in seconds, but its no guarantee of course. the way women push, on their backs supported is not the best position because their pelvis isnt opened all the way. it is the best position for a doctor to give an epsiotomy tho.....

While I understand what you are trying to say, folks here are more comparing notes than anything else...
The last 3 weeks of pregnancy seem like an eternity of trips to the ladies room and a long trail of Tums...If you actually look not amny are right on the nose anyhow...

It's strange isn't it? How that works... must be because your used to it
As i said, my daughter was 7lb 2oz & i had a little graze with her (but hurt like hell) my son was 8lb 11.5 and i didn't tear, graze or bruise at all!
Edited to add : btw, just before my son got stuck i had an urge to get on all fours, but they woudn't let me, don't ask i don't know why, they told me to lie on my back! When he did get stuck, hes head was out & had the cord round his neck so it was an extra panic to get him out as soon as possible, they shoved my legs right up into my face.... then with a few extra pushes i got him out. It was scary, he wasn't breathing for a while at first and was so blue!

I'm thinking my daughter will be somewhere in between the 2 boys in weight when shes born (just a feeling i have) hopefully she will be early too she has a tradition to uphold lol (only 6 weeks to go... fingers crossed... hopefully she'll be here in 5 lol) Blessed Be ~Morrigan~

i think when u are giving birth, u can feel (if u CAN feel things) what position is going to work best. if the baby is getting stuck, u can often feel what position ISNT working. i read awonderful article in prevention magazine my a doctor uuging other doctors to listen to the mother about what position to birth in because she has "insider information" on what feels right as the baby emerges. i have heard of babies just sliding out of their mothers as the mother gets onto her hands and knees even if they were stuck while she lay on her back.
the cord is around the neck of the baby is about 25% pecent of births and really isnt a big deal. the baby either comes out all the way with it like that or the attendent loops the cord over their head, or failing that, in a situation where the baby cant come, they will clamp and cut the cord to let the baby emerge. the baby is still getting oxygen from the cord, not through breathing until its out anyway.

When it comes to baby weights I like to strap a 5-pounder on each ankle when I jog. But I'm sure somebody has made that joke already so I'll try to contribute something more on topic.
A girl I knew who weighed about 90 pounds had twins and each kid was a normal sized baby, about 8 or 9 pounds. She went through her third trimester during one of the hottest summers in recent years. It made me very glad to be a man. I have huge respect for anyone who can go through the experience of giving birth. I would not want to. Huge respect for you.

#1 daughter, 7lbs, 2oz. 13 days late.
#2 daughter, 7lbs, 3oz. 11 days late.
Niether of mine had any fuzzy, or old looking wrinkles on them when they came into this world.
Looked like little baby dolls.
