What things have you discovered the deity/ies you'e connected to like that could not possibly have existed when their pantheons were formed? For example, I have discovered that Lord Ganesha really likes the Drake's(TM) Yodels and Ring-Dings. (They're only available in the Northeastern US.) For those of you who don't know what they are, they're junk food chocolate snack cakes with creme centers.

Yinepu (anubis) likes disco (I kid you not. But don't mention it to Him else you'll have to deal with him john travoltaring around the room. It's a bit embarrassing. I've never seen it myself, but some people have seen Him in flares and an afro wig :foh: ).
He also likes rum, of course (the real reason why all the rum is gone).

He also seems to have a fascination with tibetan mani/prayer wheels. I bought Him one as a pressie the other day and got a statue in return (this is quite an interesting story actually :D, but it's for another time maybe.)

Can't think of much else right now. :)

Hotep Khuinaset :) how are ya hon?

this is a prayer wheel (http://dharmashop.com/details.mgi?NUM=rp004)

And now, the story

In the beginning (hehe.. the great spirit glided peacefully over the primordial waters..) when I was first waking up to my Kemeticness Yinepu would follow me everywhere (seriously. car rides and all. I'd have to request He wait in the hall when I went to the toilet.. lol).
During this time I would go to my best friend's place a lot. She has a prayer wheel that I always loved and I would pick it up and have a spin and a ponder when I walked past it.
One time when I picked up the prayer wheel Yinepu was around and was hugely fascinated by it. He stood there spinning it (or I supposed it's spiritual counterpart, seeing as I was spinning it too?) and got this distant meditative look about Him and His eyes started glowing this beatiful deep blue. It was quite an experience.
So of course I told Him that if He wanted one I'm get Him one, but unfortunately I didn't know where to buy them.. He then gave me a name of a place. This boggled me because it was a completely random place that I don't think I'd ever even been to. This is when my friend interrupted my ponderings and I asked her where she'd got the prayer wheel and what do you know, same place ;)

Anywho. I put off getting Him His prayer wheel for too long, because the place was quite far away. I started getting all edgy and nervous about it. I suddenly decided I NEEDED to go. So I did and I got it (there's even more story behind that excursion, as an importer visiting from Egypt randomly asked to look at my palm and told me I had links to Egypt!).

Now, for a while I'd been looking for a statue of Yinepu. They're impossible to find in New Zealand..
The day after I bought Him His prayer wheel I get a PM from one of the guys in the House of Netjer beginner's class saying he had a statue of Yinepu that he didn't really need and Yinepu had been bugging him to offer it to me.. did I want it. :foh: And interestingly enough, it was the exact statue I'd been wanting!

Needless to say I was flabbergasted. lol. This guy (bless him! You're an OK guy Devin :D ) sent me the statue, for free, all the way from the States! paid $30+ shipping to get it to me and everything.

I don't know if this was a you scratch my back, I scratch yours kind of thing. Or because I'd recently been all worried about my relationship with Yinepu and needed a pick-me-up, or a combination of both.. But either way!

I am in a state of religious awe.
I love you Yinepu! :hearthear

Twenty bucks to anyone who can convince me this was all a coincidence, lol.

I don't know that my dieties particularly like any food or drink. I offer, but I usually offer that of which I am fond...sort of a "I think you will like this, and I would like to share with you" thing. I can't really tell if they do or not.

But....why shouldn't they like things that are more modern inventions? Just because they are old doesn't mean that they have not developed with the times.....

I never said that they shouldn't like modern things, Mab. I know that the Gods change with the times, and I created this topic in part for people to share their little stories of how exactly they've done that.

Oh, and instinct, do you think Yinepu likes disco because of all the energy people put into it of it being associated with death?

I'm beginning to think the gods are missing out when they visit Britain...dunkin' donuts closed a long time ago, in Glasgow anyway (*craving doughnuts now*) - the only time I've seen them over here.

Speaking of Brigid, not only does she like a good dram of Baileys, but spud is her thing too (maybe I'm biased on both accounts...). A good mash of potato (spud) and butter is a very traditional recipe offered to her as a feast on St Brigid's day in Ireland, and that isn't something that existed in pagan times at all; but it's something that has come to be associated with her.

Even as a recon, I'll admit that the gods adapt and change :D I tend to focus on the more traditional milk and honey, or go for a single malt and bread as an offering in a general sense. But to be honest if it's to hand, and is given sincerely, I'll offer it. Even the candles I light in honour of my gods aren't made in the same way, or from the same materials as my forebears used. I suppose it's ironic that I can't afford the luxury of those traditional candles...

*ponders* I never really thought about why. lol

I would be inclined to say that it's just His silly side coming out. I suppose when you're dealing with death and gloom most of the time you need a few high energy- high life past times to sort of balance things out, lol.

Drink some rum, crack out the flares and put on the saturday night fever soundtrack.. Who you callin' god of the dead?

I think Yinepu is patron god of disco, rum and smirking at people mysteriously from the shadows.

so does the morrigan. maybe it's the irish thing coming through. she shows herself to me as both irish and welsh, depending on her mood and my need.
she also has a penchant for mead, which may or may not have been around, and chartreuse, which definitely wasnt. considering revoking my non-alcohol lifestyle pledge for a while.....

there are very few forms of food that i have seen the morrigan relish. i know she loves blood, but i wouldnt exactly class that as a foodstuff. and dont you dare turn it into something as rediculous as black pudding - if it isnt the real thing, dont bother!
she is quite thin, so i am wondering how much she actually does eat. something else to consider. thank you for the jolt of awareness!

You have to start by trusting yourself. You walk past the statue of Ganesh, you suddenly feel a COMPULSION to give him a quarter. You don't because it's stupid. You feel crazy and itchy. You give quarter. You feel better.

You stand in front of a statue with a red flower in one hand and a yellow flower in the other. You offer one at a time. Notice body sensations, thoughts, feelings.

You do a ritual and make an unusual offering. The ritual is a success. Or a failure. You make a mental note.

Like that.

lol - don't worry. Spiritual relationships with the divine work differently for different people - at least, insofar as you understand it. In my experience, divinity treats us all the same, but we've all got these different ways of understanding it and describing it, because we all attribute different meanings to different parts of our interaction with the divine. :) And there are no gods or goddesses that would want to go to Starbucks, clearly such an evil would destroy divinity upon contact.

I don't. ^_^ I wouldn't call my relationships with gods as intimately personal. I mean, for some odd reason, I like cows. A lot. So that's why the gods that I like most are Krishna and Hathor (shameless eclecticism, I know) and so I paint them (and cows). I just sing and light incense and such; I haven't really found any food products that really speak to our relationship yet. There were never any bolts of lightning or anything, and I still question if I picked them, but there you are.

Anyway, since we're on the topic, though, my dad swears (actually Lama Rinchen told him this) that Medicine buddha likes Jagermeister. And he uses nice dry red wine (my mom's nice dry red wine) for Mahakala.

And there are no gods or goddesses that would want to go to Starbucks, clearly such an evil would destroy divinity upon contact. That is so true!

I have found that Lord Loki is partial to strong whiskey. Usually Bushmills Irish Whiskey.

Lord Amaethon seems to favor white rum. Usually Bacardi's or Lamb's.

i kinda do. when she isnt around, i just ask her where she is and if she's free. usually she is, and she turns up for a natter - or sometimes i visit her, wherever she may be.
she's sat in my car on my 5hr journey to my parents house, and sat on the fridge at work when i waws totally stressed and needed to rant and be soothed; she's walked with me into uni many a day, and regularly arrives on my bed when im just potteringa round my room. we talk about all sorts of things, friom the state of m y realtionship to the workings i've done recently, to the situation in hand, to particle physics. and, oddly enough, she is usually wearing jeans. which bothers me as i hardly ever wear trousers. c'est la vie.

Well, you know, different deities, different preferences. I bet some deities love Starbucks. Let's see, Starbucks is French Roast, so many Gaulish deities....

It's like this. Brigid gets milk or Irish Cream, Isis gets beer, Dionysos gets wine...I'm sure somebody gets coffee.
