In Egyptian mythology, Isis is the goddess of fertility and motherhood, representing the feminine or Yin energies.
And it was with the idea of fertility in mind that Isis Shire in the Burnett region was named; the Goddess Isis was representative of the fertile nature of the land in the Isis district.
But according to two letters tabled in Council, a small minority of the residents in the Isis Shire are concerned that the use of a symbol of the pagan goddess in the Council's corporate logo could be inviting untoward and evil spirits into the shire.
Isis Town and Country proprietor Wayne Heidrich helped to develop and promote a range of products based on the "Buckle of Isis", which the Goddess Isis is said to have worn. Keyrings, logos and pins all bear the emblem which promotes fertility and goodluck.
