I was wondering if anybody here knew how to begin practicing Automatic Writing.

find somewhere quiet.. the most anoying thing ever is to have someone ask you a question halfway through!!

Aside from that just start writeing.. if you have a specific thing within yourself you want to learn more about start with that, if not start with how your day went.. etc.. write really fast.. it doesnt matter if you miss words.. it helps to get the ball rolling a bit..

this is only the way i do it tho and i dont know a lot about it... I'll be interested to know how others do this too..

What you will need to do is alter your state of consciousness, Ruby, or enter a trance as some refer to it. This can be achieved in many ways. You can use visualization, rhythmic drumming or chanting, herbs, and well the list goes on and one.

Once in a trance typically the person will ask questions either aloud or in one's mind. Occasionally they will speak directly to a specific entity, such as a deity or someone who is deceased. From there you simply let your hand holding the pen flow and do not worry about it being legible or what you are writing. Concentrate only on maintaining the trance, you will intuitively do the rest most often.

Make sure you have a pen that is not low on ink and writes smoothly as well as many sheets of paper. Stacking them up so that when you feel you're done with one particular piece of paper is best, that way you can simply slide it off to the side quickly and continue on.

Also, do a search over in the Divination forum... Freyja did a really good thread on that a couple years back...

also, do not think about what you are writing, don't even bother to look at it. You want your writing to flow freely, not be predicted by your brain.
- that's my style at least

I have a question as well, I've asked it before, but for the sake of opinions I'll ask again.
What do you do when you can (to some degree) automatic-write, but who/whatever it is you are channeling, has the most godawful chicken scratching? I can scan some stuff if y'all want me to.

Thanks everybody. :D I wasn't sure where to look or even where to post this.

I'll go check out those other threads.

Here's a discussion we had a while ago - there's a cross-reference in this thread to another thread with good information as well:
