I've studied many different forms of magic and I've had several theories about what magic is and how it works & why it works - I'm curious as to the perspectives of others. I've added a poll with a couple of ideas - obviously this is not a very large list and it won't include everyone's opinion, but it is a place to start.

Well I feel it is quite simple. It is thought. Sometimes controlled and directed and sometimes not. Thats whats at the heart of it to me!!! :)

I am talking about magick as in the magick people do such as spells. :)

I don't see a poll, but that's alright, most polls never reflect my stance so I do not vote.

I define magic in one simple word; energy. Energy exists all around us, and in various forms discernible to the naked eye and not discernible to the naked eye. The flash of lightning across the sky and the movement of atoms are both examples of this. Energy is what powers even us, from our body heat to our thought processes. There is no place within the cosmos that it does exist in one way or the other. Through force of will, we can manipulate the energy around us to create change, and by following paths of energy we can be met with resistance. For example, casting a spell to enhance your confidence performed during the hour of Mars and on a Tuesday (ruled by Mars) is two fold in that the goal will be met with less resistance due to energy patterns at this time and secondly will be enhanced by the energy offered by Mars. Our will to change things manifests in many forms too, such as energy. Visualization, altered states of consciousness, and manipulating energy on a more direct level all relate to this. It is energy that moves the stars themselves and so to it is energy that moves through us bringing us results when we harness and manipulate it properly and with accuracy.

Magic is willpower. Willpower is energy.

Actually I agree RG.
Thought is energy and so is emotion and thus to me are the 2 things that make something like a spell work!! :) With thought I feel being the dominate in spell work as in providing the direction to the energy..the instruction. :)

[QUOTE=Morning Star]I've studied many different forms of magic and I've had several theories about what magic is and how it works & why it works - I'm curious as to the perspectives of others. /QUOTE]

Deity created the Omniverse by thinking a containment (Beth, the Mage), focusing a bunch of energy or e- motion on it (Resh, the Sun), and releasing it completely (Aleph, the Fool). {The first half of the first word in the Torah - - - BeRA = create.} Results resemble causes. The Omniverse is the ultimate result, so everything in the Omniverse works that same way, think or envision, focus energy or emotion, and release completely. You can call it prayer, you can call it magick, or you can call it manifesting. What you call it really doesn't matter.

Poll?

My damn computer crashed as I was trying to write the poll. So the thread posted, but not the poll. :( anyway - I'd still like to hear others' thoughts.

Raven, excellent post btw. Very well thought out.

Magic is science that scientists haven't quantified yet.
