Well, It's that time of year again and my kids and myself are starting on the baking today!
Every year we bake LOTS of cookies and give them to neighbors, friends and the retirement home.
This year we are making Snowballs, Sugar, choc. crinkles, taffy and toffee and one more that hasn't been decided.
We also always make Gingerbread houses and drums and Santa's Chimney and this year a jewerly box made of Ginger Bread.
Does anyone else here do anything like this?
Just wondering.
Ok, I am off to bake!!!

Nope but I wish I lived near to you.
Im not so good with cooking. Altho it gives me ideas. I like to buy the candy and give it out. More expensive but probabaly worth it for I dont think people would want to eat my creations.

Sugar cookies!! :D My cousin makes them and they're great....
But that's a fantastic idea!!! how many cookies do you typically make for each Nursing home and stuff? when do you drop them off??? AAH! what if they're diabetic? Because that's really interesting and because you made it sound so thoughtful, i'm thinking about doing it myself... Fill me in! :D

Starting the baking here myself. I've been up all night making Pasticciottis. They're Italian custard filled pastries. Still have eclairs, ricotta cookies, biscotti and choc chip cookies to go :foh:
We have like squat for money, but I always have tons of stuff for baking in the cupboard...what better time to use it :)

I am starting my holiday baking tomorrow and it willlikely take me all week to do. I do walnut cups, walnut balls, pecan choc. bars, shortbreads, almond cresents, magic bars, some sort of lemon cookie. peanut butter brownies... and sugar cookies withthe kids.
All in all I usually end up making ten different kinds of cookies.
I am looking for a few easy recipes on non- nut cookies for my grandma, who doesn't like nuts anymore. Any ideas?
PoisonIvy, try allrecipes.com and do a search for snickerdoodles. I am sure you will find several recipes there.
Myzty- I could *live* on cookies this time of year! I have no favorites as long as they aren't anise flavored or have bits of fruit in them. _cookie_

Chryssi1, try Ricotta cookies. Go to allrecipes.com and type in Ricotta cookies, there's a recipe there for Ricotta Cookies III. They are AWESOME. I have my own recipe...but I found that one yesterday and decided it was worth trying too.
Being that one of the ingredients is Ricotta cheese...it may sound nasty, but it isn't. You can't taste the cheese, it just makes them light, fluffy and delightful. I have to make 4 dozen when I take them anywhere lol. They're like little bites of heaven :D

When we were kids my parents used to have a great cookie bake off every year....sugar cookies, chocolate chip, pecan, peanutbutter, etc etc etc. We would start on friday afternoon and finish late at night on sunday.
I have a suggestion for anyone who has a person on a special sugar reduced diet or wants their cookies to stay soft try substituting in your recipe 1 regular package of dry vanilla pudding for 3/4 cup of sugar. (I dont think you can sub out all the sugar but maybe someone can let me know if they try it)

What I usually do is bake about 4-5 dozen and take them over, I have found with the Diabetic's (like my G'ma) they have told me they will give them like half a cookie and they are fine.
I drop them off the week before Christmas and everyone always is so happy to get them. Some people there have no one to come see them or anything so just something like this just makes their day.
It's just a way to let them know they are not forgotton.
My kids (before we moved) used to go with the Church and go to the Nursing Home and sing carols and talk to the people there and they would just light up.
Anyway that what we do :)
