I sit out in the woods alone. I watch the clouds, the trees, the birds, and the squirrels. I listen to all the sounds. I smell all the smells. I tread lightly, careful not to step on anything.
Is this communing with Nature?

Is this communing with Nature?Do you hear what is being told? How does it make you feel?

I heard many sounds, but the only word they spoke was "life". It made me feel great. :)

I would say that's more being aware of nature than actually communning with it. When you actually start to interact that's what I would call communning...but one leads to the other...usually.

com·mune1 ( P ) Pronunciation Key (k-myn)
intr.v. com·muned, com·mun·ing, com·munes
To be in a state of intimate, heightened sensitivity and receptivity, as with one's surroundings: hikers communing with nature.
Dun, dun, dun. You tell me if it was or was not. Though, I prefer to extend this definition to not just equate with one's surroundings, necessarily.

Nope, that doesn't really sound like it...I feel an almost motherly vibe when I'm out there though. Like I'm being protected. Communing or not, I'm happy out there. :)

Being able to feel that motherly vibe is what makes it communing with nature. I'd say that you definately reached a level of "heightened sensitivity and receptivity".

it sounds to me more like you were enjoying nature. i grew up on a farm and literally spent about 90% of my time out in the woods and the timbers. i've heard the life, but theres always a the darker side to it as well. ive seen the aminals play, and ive seen them kill. ive watched the trees grow, and ive seen them fall. in order to commune with nature you have to be one with it and except that with the life comes the death, its the nature of things.

I've fully accepted that. I never said I did not. I just don't see much of it in the small woods that I visit.

I think you are doing well, and on the road to learning many new things. One day you will see something you have never seen before, but that has been there all the time.
