The woman should have been a priest instead of a teacher this way they would have covered it up and just transferred her.

The 36 year old woman must be very very mixed up to think that marrying a 14 year old was the right thing to do. It sounds like statutory rape to me, because it sounded concentual.

Oh, this is good. Nothing like more "feel good" news about Pagans to supposedly bring us out of the closet. This kind of stuff sends us back to the burning times. How horrifying, she'll get hers.

KarmaKarmaKarmaKarmaKarma.... Haha, I've said it again.

Thinking back to the days when our 25 year old ancestors wedded 11 year old girls, this doesn't come as a shock to me. I'm not saying this is okay, but this isn't shocking. I feel that age is no barrier to love, but that ignorance of the law borderlines into absolute stupidity when it comes to this stuff. The teen was an emotional wreck to begin with, so what made the teacher think the girl would be ready for marriage and sex? The girl will possibly be depressed and guilt-ridden by this irresponsible mess. She's probably going to have a hell of a time living a normal life now, especially with her classmates hearing about this. Jeers and rants of being a freak and a lesbian, as if that's a bad thing, will drive her crazy.

I really don't knwo what to say, since I don't have all the facts I can't really condemn this person, I do however feel that this woman should have known better then to get involved with a 14 year old. I don't have a problem with the difference in age as much as teh fact that this woman was a teacher and this girl could very well have felt compelled to get involved with the woman because of that.

The article also stated that the girl had emotional issues which makes the whole thing even worse in my eyes.

I find it hard to believe that people can do these kind of things and I am constantly surprised by the wierd, disturbing and horrible things that happen in the world today.

I feel that the media is throwing the Pagan thing in to just try to make this news worthy. Just like when the Priests were charged with the same thing. If there was no religious affiliation this type of thing would not have even been mentioned. Just think about the number of times this sort of thing happens without even being brought out in the media. To me it is just a matter of someone using thier position of authority for thier own selfish reasons.

because, after all, so many of 'us' were staked-and-steaked during these "burning times" of which you speak...cough...ahem......

i dont think the teacher necessarily coerced the student into sexual relations by improper use of her position, but she was an idiot to let it go so far into the illegal. unless of course it was her aim to get herself arrested and trialed, but who can say.

i agree with you totally. But i feel that the girl was taken atvantage of due to the state that she was in. but as a grown woman the teacher should have known better.

I read about this on here first ... but the article wasn't too specific.. now I've got the local angle.. the teacher grew up in Muskegon.. (where I live).. so, of course it was front page in our newspaper..

The biggest problem is.. while i was reading it didn't ring true.. something wasn't right.. They made it sound like this girl had NO clue what was going on.. now, I had my first lesbian experience at 10 (knowing full well what I was doing).. I don't think it is possible to be that naive.. (and the paper didn't make her out to be that emotionally unstable.. depressed most likely.. but that doesn't make you stupid).. I think the teacher was nuts to get herself into this situation.. and no matter what kind of relationship it might have been, it is still illegal, but the press is altering it for their own reasons.. I think people need to just try to read between the lines with the news stories from now on. NONE of the articles say the same thing.. other than the pagan wedding.. grr.. take that out of it and they have very little to tell.. The last time i remember that happening was the woman who just married the ex-student.. *shrug*.. Is it still wrong?.. now that he's an adult?

I have to give it to this town though.. after Iggy Pop was born here the place started going nuts.. there is always something shocking going on here.. either in town or by someone who lived here at some point)
