View Full Version : One of my dreams last night...

I dont' often remember my dreams very well, but last night before going to bed, I had a quick read through a book I got recently; Julia & Derek Parker's Complete Book of Dreams (which I found to be extremely Christian orriented, btw, and so of minimal use to me because of several symbolic uncertainties).

Anyhow, here's what happend in one of them: I was in an apartment, on the upper floor of a large building, and had somehow 'buried' these countless bags of garbage in between the floors below me. After going into the basement (or at least a lower floor of the building), for whatever reason I can't be sure of, I found that the bags were leaking water into the wooden hallway (the entire building was wooden, I think), and making a big mess. I'm pretty sure that I was trying to hide the bags of garbage, but they leaked out anyways.

Now, maybe it's a good thing that they were leaking downwards, like to go back into the earth. I'm not really sure. I spoke to some people about the 'leak' while I was in the basement too, and ended up trying to make an excuse for the leak, so they wouldn't know it was bags of garbage I had buried there.

I'm hoping that the interpretation is pretty simple; I have a lot of 'stuff' which I want to get rid of, but I try to hide it instead of throwing it out. And the 'stuff' always shows itself, despite my best efforts to contain it.

What do others think?

It almost sounds to me like you're trying to hide something from someone while others are either making excuses for you or they are also trying to help you hide it. Are you embarassed or worried about something? Have you told anyone about something you are afraid of other people knowing? Is a secret slowly coming out? Is any of this making any sense at all?
Blessed Be!

Your interpretation makes sense. The garbage is obviously things you need to get rid of. Why are they underneath you though? Do you need this "trash" (or whatever it is) to support you or hold you up? The leaking away could be your support system (or false sense of security??) slowly leaking away?

do you know whos garbage it was? that would tell alot.

water is (for me anyway.) a strong sign of something sexual...

i think it's alot more than just getting rid of something. if you remember more details, the feelings involved, if you know who the trash belonged to.. even if you just know it was or wasn't yours, was the building significant at all? as much as you can remember and i can sort it out for you :)

Here are some brief explanations of the symbolism that I get from your dream...The building represents you. I think that the various floors probably represent different aspects of your consciousness/subconsciousness. The garbage represents something about yourself that you are either ashamed of, or afraid of, and defineatly need to be rid of. The fact that you would be hiding it within the floors would mean that you are trying desperately to repress these things. The leaking water represents your emotions relating to this "baggage" and you are probably afraid of feeling out of control by allowing these emotions to come to the surface (many folks would rather let their feelings fester than allow anyone to know that they are in pain).

Dream books are entertaining, but I think that it is everyones responsibility to find out their own personal interpretations and symbolic language. We are all different, and what I may perceive in your symbols may not be completey accurate to your own symbolic interpretation.

But it is always nice to get objective opinions too....simply because it is nearly impossible to be objective with yourself. Sometimes your dreams may be trying to smack you upside the head but you're just too afraid to face certain things.

Sorry to take so long to comment, I keep forgetting where I make my posts! Dio's symbolic interpretations make good sense, especially of the apartment building representing aspects of my conscious and sub-conscious, because I'd never seen the place in reality before.

I have a far better understanding of the meaning of the dream now. I've been recently telling a lot of people about all the bad stuff I've been hiding for so long. And this is letting my (long) hidden emotions/feelings of gulit and shame leak and fade away.

Thanks to everyone for the help! :)
