i did a search and couldn't really find a thread specific to tarot ethics, so i decided to post one... i have a query, as others might, so i figure this might be a good place to post these types of things... here goes...
so, i was wondering if it is ethical to do tarot readings about someone without them knowing about it. I ask because i have a friend, and she's emotionally going through a rough time and is trying so hard to hide it, i think she's even convinced herself that she's okay, but i know better. anyways, i have been doing some readings concerning her because i'd like to know what may be going on, and i want to be able to help her. anyways, if she knew about this, she might get pretty upset, so i'm hiding it from her, but i'm not sure if what i'm doing is right, i think its sort of like spying on her thoughts or something, but it is for her own good... so i'm not sure whether i find it right or wrong, and maybe if other people helped me out by sharing their ideas on this, i could form my own opinion or something.

So your question is: Is it ethical to do Tarot readings regarding someone without them knowing it? I don't see any problem with this. It is our own personal business what or who we think about, dream about, journal about, get psychic visions about, etc.... Most of the professional readers in my town would not take money for a reading that was soley about someone other than the client. They would probaby consider that unethical because they are providing information that the querent would otherwise be unable to get on their own. You on the other hand have the skills to obtain information legitimately for yourself, in private, with no money involved LOL

On the other hand to do a Tarot reading about someone AND then tell them or others is another story. That is like giving unsolicted advice and tends to piss people off. As long as you keep your Tarot findings to yourself I do not think it is a problem. Just remember that the Tarot usually only shows possibilities and that the cards are not written in stone.

Best wishes,

Rhianna

I agree. I don't see a problem with doing a reading about someone else's situation, especially if your intent is to gain insight in what is going on and how you might help them cope. Discussing the reading with anyone else would be wrong, and I would be very cautious about talking to the person you did the reading for about your reading. Some people might not appreciate someone "poking around in their business" with their tarot cards.

okay, thanks. part of it seemed like it could be wrong, but then again, if i have access to the cards and the knowledge to use them wisely, then it can't really be all that wrong... i just needed a second opinion. i don't tell my friend that i am doing this, i don't tell her anything about this, i just know when she might need to talk, and what she might need to talk about, so i can call her up and make sure she's okay. but anyways, i guess its okay now, i just needed some affirmation.

Well I always was taught that it is wrong to do unless you have permission from the person, but on the other hand I personally find that sometimes I have had a strong urge to see how someone is doing and so have done a reading... I guess it is up to each individual.
