View Full Version : Candle Light Vigils, Rituals, Show of Support
Myst

Do you know of a Candle Light Vigil or other supportive rituals for those victims and families affected by Tuesday's terrorist attacks? I've heard a couple things floating around, so why don't we all share here so everyone can see them?
For example, http://cherrygoddess.net/ is my own site - and now has information on a show of support going on Wednesday night/Thursday morning. http://xomusic.audio-stream.net/gwydd/ is Mari's site, and shows the button to unite people against terrorists. Several sites are using this button and are symbolically closing their sites for the time being (or at least showing this button or another graphic on the front page) to show support for the victims and their families.
As people, we know that giving blood and donating volunteering time or money or a hot meal are mundane things we can do to help. As Pagans, we know that we can unify and work towards a common goal and magickally make a difference as well.
I'm sure there will be more going around in the next few days. If you would like to start one please post it here too. I think all the thousands of people of MW can really make a difference here, so let's work together folks!
Brightest blessings to all!

We have several things happening here in San Diego. A candle-light vigil at the Veteran's Memorial, several churches are open 24 hours a day for prayer.

I've been having problems editing and writing on my own site, for some time. Darned fortune city! I will try again tomorrow, to add a button.
Currently, I'm organizing a candle light vigil in my town, scheduled for Saturday night, at 8:00 pm. The firemen hosted a memorial service for their fallen brothers at a local catholic church last night, but there was little turn out...due to the last minute nature, and probably, the fact that it was church oriented. I know that many towns in this area of Rhode Island will be hosting things over the next few days. Since there are victims from several parts of Rhode Island. One from North Smithfield, one from Cranston, one from Pawtucket, one from Warwick. So I'm sure those towns will be holding something as well. If I hear anything, I'll let you all know.
My former circle, back in my hometown, is holding a ritual/candlelight vigil/drum circle at the home of it's founding members tonight...I think that begins around 8 as well. I will update later, as to the time, so that if some of you wish to coordinate your efforts, and say a prayer at the same time as they will be drumming, you can do so.

Okay, so I will type what is on my mind for the moment and see what everyone thinks. I am not sure how many of us can be contacted on mw, but I do know that if you are truly pagan, you will know what is happening.
We all know to some extent about astral travel. We all know of places in the world where we could go and meet. I am seeing alot of us meeting somewhere where we can come together and do some magick. I feel like if everyone got a picture of one place and set it down in front of them during a focus on the people of the world that need protection, that this would be the way to go. We are all different when it comes to our spirituality so there has to be one main goal.
Thoughts are definitely racing right now.....whew!
Okay, the one who is causing all of this. We can get pictures! Right? You all probably think I am crazy but we can take care of him as well. Nature is what protects the Earth now. Bring her into your circle asking for this as a whole! She will come, and you will know because not only will the crickets sing loudder, but so will thek trees and everything else. This man must go before it gets worse. We know that the Christians haven't the slightest clue as far as how to find and get rid of him without causing more death and war. But we know how. It's not like we haven't done these things before. Especially when you or your family is hurt because of his actions. We can't stop him if we don't come to gether as one spirit woven through the threads of the earth. You will all have your own opinions to this but I am sure that something GOOD will come from what we do. Okay so I am crazy for telling everyone this but there has to be a way. I believe! Do you? Let's put are heads together and figure it out. We do have some time to make a difference. But you must believe in you! No second guessing! Love empowers us all! No offense, but all of us just lighting one candle or doing our own circles on different nights just won't do it like it needs to be done. Tell me if I am wrong, but don't all of us have at least one thing in common here? And don't you think there is a REASON for this? Everything happens for a reason! Again,,,I BELIEVE, DO YOU?
Blessed be to all!

http://childofserenity.tripod.com or http://www.geocities.com/Sareca_of_Vulcan/
there are links from both those pages to my short rant about the events.
Although I'm not supposed to use candles (stupid paranoid father), he said "inside the house". . . so if i can, I will participate in the vigil.
Everyone, let's stay strong together.

This is a brief right-up about two events going on in the area, to send prayers to the victims of the terrorist attacks. They're happening in my town. One of them, is the one I am organizing.
I'm the one they quote :)

A brief update: I got a town council member to come and speak, I got an officer in the fire department to come and offer "The firemans prayer". I got a police department officer to come and offer some words, and various Spiritual leaders from differen't denominations of churches in the area. At Eight O'Clock, at the beginning of the proceedings, all of the churches in the area, will be ringing their bells. In addition, the fire department is loaning us two of their ladder trucks. Between the two trucks, they plan on hanging a HUGE American Flag, with a spotlight on it. We will sing, offer prayers, read a list of the victims which are known....(by the way, if anyone gets updates on the victims list, please let me know). I have yet to hear from several churches, and some state officials about whether or not they will be coming to the service. I need to go out soon to hang fliers around town, and to purchase extra candles, and posterboard so I can make a sighn, and some Wax-protectors for the candles (don't want anyone getting burned by the dripping wax). We're hoping to get some poetry to read, and some soft music to play in the background. Please keep me in mind that night...Saturday the 15th, at 8:00 P.M. I'll need an extra shot of courage, as this is something that I've never done before!!!! I just hope it all goes off smoothly. Getting the Schedule down, of who does what when, may not be so easy..lol. So keep me in mind!!!!! Thanks!

Ok, hope this isn't too dumb a question...would that be 7pm your time? Should we adjust our vigil to match you or should we do this at our time?
Myst
September 14th, 2001, 12:37 AM
don't know, it doesn't say does it? And we don't know the exact source.. so for now I'm going to go by 7EST, you might choose to use universal time, or if someone knows exactly what time zone in which this is planned let us know.
As well, Friday has been declared a national day of mourning.

Well, my famly participated in our own candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. which I received in an email that went across the U.S. Myself, my husband and 2 boys went outside our house on the front lawn and lit white candles and sang God Bless America and the National Anthem and said a prayer for the victims. I know we will all come though this and we will stand Strong!!!!!!!

We did the same Mysty. We met outside with some neighbors. My kids had flags to wave, as I am focusing them more on the patriotic aspect. But it felt good to do something. As people passed us on the street in cars, they gave us the thumbs up or beeped.

Hubby and I lit candles at Seven O'Clock, and went outside. Our neighbor also did the same...and all up and down our road, people came out of their houses with candles lit. It was beautiful. After about a half hour, we left our candles lit in their holders, and drove up and down our neighborhood. There was hardly a house, or a store, which was NOT lit up by candles. At the local supermarket, employees gathered outside in a circle, with candles lit. The same at the CVS pharmacy. The same at the local bakery, and the even the drinking establishments. It was truly moving.
