Thank you for that information, swan. My hubby works in AutoBody...and he can order such masks in bulk. I will call the redcross, and find out where our local office is, and how to donate some, and then ask John to ask the others at his shop, to donate some money to order some masks, and send them. I can't call him today, as he's already called me, and his boss is picky about how many phone calls he gets. But I will ask him as soon as I get home tonight. Thanks again. Swan..btw..do you know if the redcross is also accepting basic needs materials??? Such as cotton balls, soap, etc??????? I'm sure most of us would be willing to pick up a couple of these items and donate them to our local Red Cross offices.

You can be arrested for wearing a surgical mask. They are classified by the FBI as drug paraphenalia.

MY OPINION.......
What, I'm not allowed to use this topic to segue into the fact that people in NY and LA are being arrested for carrying pacifiers and glow sticks, since they have been classified as "drug paraphenalia" ... granted, my post is way Off Topic, but aren't you going just a BIT overboard?
hee hee let's see if she lied about ignoring me and decides to reply.........

EVERYONES nerves are raw right now. Can we PLEASE just be a little extra patient with eachother. If someone says something which deeply bothers us..can we please just turn the other cheek...just during this time, and ignore the comment, but not the person???? Is that possible? I know that some of us rub eachother the wrong way..but at this time...we are ALL one family...the HUMAN family. And we need to keep that in mind.
Now....as for how to help. This is a great link:

Another way that you can help, is by Donating Cash to the International Association of Fire Fighters.
International Association of Fire Fighters
1750 New York Ave. NW
Washington, DC, 20006.
Make sure to specify that your donation is for Disaster Relief.

She did, in a PM. I won't post her reply here (I don't think I could!) but I will elaborate on my position here.
Seriously though... all that can be done... has been. New York is a freakin organized as hell city. I mean, even before the second tower colapsed, our Operations guy Bill (who is a local firefighter) got the call that all Paramedic personnel from the whole area were asked to go to Highlands to catch a ferry to manhattan. Not even an hour, and aid from NJ was already flowing in. Fire companies were also pulled in, but in a different way - the companies closest to New York went to help, or to cover the other 4 borroughs, and then other NJ companies farther away were assigned to cover their territory, and so forth. Sort of like the game Risk, when you move your armies forward, you can have your supporting armies move up in behind you to cover your advance.
Additionally, I tried to donate blood Tuesday, but the local blood banks were full by 3 pm. They are only accepting type O blood, the universal donor type. People in NYC were turned away as well. There's more blood available in the area then EVER before.
And yes, a lot of people did lose their clothes. But remember, this was a workplace that was destroyed, not a home. Their closets at home are very much full, and when the dust settles, there's going to be piles of crap lying around that didn't help anyone.
It's not like the earthquakes in India and Turkey, where there simply were not enough volounteers on hand to save everyone who could be saved. This disaster is highly localized. They're maxed out with volounteers, they simply can't fit any more in the 20 square block space around the disaster area.
So by all means, donate to your hearts content, if it gives you peace of mind. You can flame me too, if that makes you feel better, I really don't mind. But that's probably all it's doing.
Everyone wants to help. We'd feel better if we could help. Sadly, there's nothing we can do. Everything that can be done.... has. Our hands were tied even before this trajedy occured. If I thought I could have saved a life by sneaking onto the ferry headed up to manhattan, I would have. But that's not the case.

Check with your local area, besides the Red Cross about donations. As I stated in the other thread, the Home Depots in the area are taking in donations of supplies. I'm not sure if all of them all over the country are, but I have a feeling they are. Check with them also about donating.
Things they need:
Non-perishible food
t-shirts
salene (sp???) solution, like you use to wash out eyes, the smoke contains all kinds of junk in it, glass & such
socks
underwear
raincoats
tarps (rain is forecasted for tonite & friday)
breathing masks
Thats just some that I've heard on the radio. Money donations can go to the Red Cross also.
Thanks everyone for doing what you can.
Blessings to you all!

Bluntly put, Illuminatus, but sadly true. I guess as compassionate human beings, we would feel better being able to do something constructive other than sitting here watching it on the news. I know that's how I feel. It's an horrible helpless feeling. :(

Yeup. So instead of giving blood, I went home and played Star Wars:Rebellion until I was tired enough to go to sleep. I just didn't think about it for a while, which was all I could hope to do.
