Does Annubis have anything to do with the sun, or solstice?

Nope. He's an Egyptian death god.

I knew he was egyptian. I just didn't know of what. What the hell was my brain up to this morning then, when I woke up at4:42 and sang welcome to the sun, and it sent a message of thanks and hope to Annubis and someone-egyptian-or-sumerian-who's-name-starts-with-an-I-and-has-3-or-4-syllables?!!!

Inanna?

Anubis is the jackal-headed god of the underworld. Fitting for this time of year in the sense that it's the day of the year with the greatest amount of darkness. Maybe you're thanking Anubis for his role in the darkness, and welcoming back the sun?

Inanna sounds right! Good sleuthing Benny.

Maybe that's it. I wonder why on earth I was doing that? I don't have any connection with the egyption pantheon at all. But your explanation makes sense, so I'll go with that. I'll just keep my senses open for other indicators too :)

Anubis is also seen as a protector and a guide to new things since one of his aliases is called “the opener of ways”

No real connection to the sun or the winter solstice. But if you want to get creative we die in the winter of our life, so that’s when we would need his protection. Or since the winter solstice is the transition to more daylight hours it opens the way for more sun. (and a new calendar year, So the year is dieing as well)

Just having some thoughts, no real info.

Thank you Tarbh, that's helpful.

And does anyone know about Inanna?

Inanna is the Queen of Heaven and Earth in Sumerian Mythology. The big story surrounding her is her journey into the Underworld to visit her sister Ereshkigal, goddess of the underworld. On the way, she is stripped of all her material possessions, and is finally presented to Ereshkigal completely naked, who decrees that she be hung on meathooks (ouch). Inanna's faithful servant Ninshubur goes to the underworld and rescues Inanna, but Inanna finally decides to give up her husband Dumuzi in her place.

Modern pagans have embraced this story as a metaphor for spiritual transformation, the idea that you have to go deep into the darkness within yourself to come out a whole person on the other side. This also ties in to this time of year, the idea of getting to the darkest night before you can arrive back in the sunlight.

So something in your subconscious is recognizing the fact that you have reached the point in your spiritual transformation where you are ready to emerge a new person. :) Congrats!
