I have just heard through the grapevine that President Bush has given 'them' 4 hours (as of 4 p.m. EST) to 'cough up' Osama bin Laden or they will attack!!! Has anyone else heard this? Is it true???

I did hear that, but not from tv or radio, it was from a friend who said he heard it on tv. So I can't really say what is going on, I didn't hear first hand. That sure is a scary thought, though, isn't it? A war in this day in age. I'm at my home in Australia now so I'm not getting my tv info as quickly as anyone in the US, unfortunately.

Yeah and I'm in Canada at work, and at this point I'm not surprised that no one's talking about it....we work a mere 15 minutes' drive from the Parliament buildings here in Ottawa...how scared s**tless would YOU be, especially if those boneheads across the sea decided that Canada was too passive for their liking???? *shudder*

The latest that I have found has been that the Bush administration has publically named bin Laden as their main focus. Bush has also announced that the purpose of his administration will be to "whip terrorism". Here's NBC's latest report.

Good grief, I'd be scared sh**less too.
I just got to thinking that if a war starts I might be stuck here and not able to fly home to my family in Ohio. I'm supposed to go in a couple days.
My thoughts are with you, it's awful that you all are scared like that at your work.

What's REALLY scarey is that the US doesn't have any military forces within a 4 hour striking distance of Afghanistan. It'll be at least a week or 2 before a carrier can get nearby.

Which means that we'd be striking from far away with f#$%^ng ICBM's!!!

I'm just praying that this is all untrue. I'm not sure how I'd handle the decision of Bush to attack anyone at this point.

There are so many conflicting stories that you can't jump to any conclusions...

The only thing I am banking on is there will be a war and we will get Bin Laden and I would give anything to have my shot in at him! Give him up Palestine or we will eliminate you!

Yesterday my friend told me he heard on the radio that two planes were flying unauthorized over Canada. Later my fiance said he'd heard there were 3 of them, and they were over Vancouver. Yet I didn't hear anything about it on the radio. So, obviously the public isn't being informed of everything :-/

Wouldn't that be hard for Palestine to do seeing as bin Laden is NOT IN PALESTINE?? It's a good thing Dubya is at least doing a bit more research here so he doesn't threaten and eliminate the wrong nation.

The Taliban enlisted the allegiance of China today in a formal
treaty.

I would like to see bin Laden and the others responsible
caught and punished as much as anyone....but China's
allegiance changes everything....and I hope that Bush
backs off with the military...

all I can say..is OH NO. My deepest fear, was that China would support afghanistan and the Taliban. Now..I am TRULY frightened. I remember a news report a couple of years ago, stating that China had bombs aimed RIGHT at America...and that if they decided to launch them..there was absolutely NOTHING that America could do to protect us. Goddess protect us.

Bin Laden may be in Afganistan but he has close connections with Palestine and even here in the US. They are all helping to harbour him in some way I'm sure... Bush will find him and his "soldiers" and eliminate them all. War has already been declared here, we are just defending our country now!

I have only heard that he has that Church thing this morning with the police and firefighters. That is to be in 2 hours last I heard.

This is such a mess. Got my Mom packed and she will be leaving Florida to come out here to Texas boondocks with me! She leaves in the morning so if anyone has a spare candle !!!!
She is very nervous about all of the arrests being so close to her.

I work in a Nursing Home and it was so sad last night to see how many of the elderly awake all night dosing off in front of their Tvs at times but not giving up on keeping up on all of it. The majority of the comments from them involve WWII and how they always hoped it would never happen on their home front after all they had seen over seas.

I come from a very large Military based FAMILY, I have no doubt this country will kick butt, But hate this being here at home. But now I truely think we can understand the feelings of those photos from Vietnam, Isreal and other sites of war and the pain in the eyes of those people trying to protect what is theirs. This is not to say that any of them were right but those people that are a product of the backlash of war, They are the ones with the most pain.

I have never been one for tears but I can tell you I cant take the phone call recordings from the wives and husbands that knew their end was near. Or the interviews where they are asking the children how they felt when they found out there parent died.
Sh*t have a heart they just had their world destroyed I wish the media would leave them alone. If they want to tell their stories let them at least have a month or two to settle down. The pain in their eyes makes me wish I was close enough to let them know I care and give them a hug. Oh well just my 2 cents.:(

My comment was just meant as a general observation about people who are so quick to condem and ask for justice to be given that it comes before their doing some research and making sure they've doling out justice to the wrong person.

It changes nothing.

True enough.

China backed North Korea and North Vietnam as well, and we still tangled with both of them! Hell, even Russia was involved with North Korea (though this fact was not made public until the berlin wall fell).

If China thinks that they can support the Afghanis and establish a presence there to bring them under their control like another Tibet, well I think they'll be unplesantly surprised. But then Afghanistan will have THEM to rebel against, and they'd forget about the evil westerners and focus on the evil easterners.

they've always been a tough nut to crack, ask the british army, but until the war with the russians they weren't "villains", just a bunch of tribal hillpeople who's worst sins were fueding among themselves and taking potshots at the occasional british soldier. a good part of the mess there is due to the various gangs of fundamentalist types that came to "help" them against the russians and then stayed to take over and create the present theocratic state, the "taliban" of ill fame and creating something never seen before, afghani refugees from their own land. in spite of what the outside media may be saying there are afghanis who would be glad to see the backs of the taliban and would be happy to give them the traditional afghani parting gift ( a .303 bullet) to hasten their steps as they go. those fireworks at kabul airport were strictly of local origin. my suggestion to the policy wallahs down in washington would be to supply the opposition with the equipment and training and let them take back their own. i suspect even the russians would be happy enough to see the taliban gone from their border and they would cheerfully sell us the ak-47s and ak 74s to supply to the opposition afghanis.

Well, that seems like a good idea, but it's prudent to remember that's how we got into this situation to begin with.

When Russia was the bad guys, the CIA actually worked with and aided Bin Laden's groups. Back then he was fighting Russia, so it was OK. I don't think ANYONE expected (or wanted) Afghanistan to fall under the sway of his fundamentalist sympathizers. In a way, Bin Laden is a CIA protoge who has come full circle to bite us from behind.

From The Province--Sept. 14/01

OTTAWA -- Details about Canadians reported missing in New
York remained mired in the rubble of the World Trade Centre,
as families continue to flood hotlines and Internet sites for
answers.
"Michael Lohnes, your dad in Canada would like you to contact
him and let him know you are OK," reads one message posted
on one of several websites.
Jasmine Rabb of Ontario writes: "Julia, if you read this please
e-mail me. Jazzy."
The Foreign Affairs Department had no new information yesterday
about victims of the terrorist attack and stuck with its estimate
that between 50 and 100 Canadians are missing.
But the president of the Canadian Society of New York said he is
certain there are Canadians who died near the twin towers in
the terrorist attack.
"Unfortunately, I can guarantee you for a fact, that there are
Canadians that worked down there that didn't make it, because
we know some of them already," said Ken Paterson, a former
Montrealer who works for a major bank.
He would not offer any names or any estimates on numbers.
The society says there are approximately 150,000 Canadians
living in the New York City area.
Society members spoke to some Canadians as the attacks were
happening.
"We knew where they worked, we knew what floors they worked
on. We talked to some of these people after the first plane hit,
and basically one of the guys made a statement that, 'We're
trying to get out, we can't find a way out,' and he hasn't been
heard from since."
Two Canadians have been confirmed as among those who died
on four planes that were hijacked and later crashed.
Among them was Canadian Garnet (Ace) Bailey, of Lloydminster,
Sask., a former hockey player with the Edmonton Oilers and a
scout for the Los Angeles Kings.
The name of the other Canadian killed on the plane has not been
released.
Foreign Affairs spokesman Andre Lemay says thousands of
people are still calling a special 1-800 number and department staff are working around the clock.
He noted that the department has no reliable statistics on how
many Canadians live in New York, or how many worked in the
World Trade Centre area.
"Imagine a scenario where we start posting names and then
someone comes out of the rubble and says 'Why is my name on
this list?' " Lemay said.
"We have a responsibility in this case to provide accurate
information, and we have to make sure the information we get
has been fully verified."
Paterson said it has been hard for people living in the city to get
back to work knowing there are others still missing, or already
gone.
"Needless to say, we're trying our best, but I mean I was in the
office yesterday and I guess like everyone else broke down in
tears four or five times."

"The Foreign Affairs Department had no new information yesterday about victims of the terrorist attack and stuck with its estimate that between 50 and 100 Canadians are missing."

a point that gets missed in the media reports. this is not just "we americans", amidst the estimated 50,000 people that worked at the wtc were represented almost every ethnic, national, racial and religious group on earth and when the final casualty lists are reckoned up the representation will be almost as broad.
