I need energy for a friend. It's the friend who does cat and small critter rescue, and she's having a really bad month. It actually started last month. We've found that we cannot maintain the rescue, and are searching for homes desperately for the cats. We've lost a couple of special cats, and have yet another with cancer. The iguana died.
She is nearly three months behond on her mortgage. She's been struggling to keep it paid, but with all the donations having dried up, her job is simply not enough to cover the bills AND feeding the animals. Most of her utilities are late as well.
Her ex was stalking her, and tried to kill her with a knife. The police didn't do much, and he was released, and suppoosedly went to Texas. Who knows if he will show up again or not.
To top it all off, she was fired from her job yesterday. The office manager has had it in for her from the start, but since the doctors liked her, it wasn't so bad. And actually, she technically wasn't fired, since she was still on probation, she was just let go. The office manager told her that the doctors didn't like her work. Well, according to at least of the five doctors, they LOVE her work, and don't understand this. But it gets worse. The office manager has apparently also fired three other people. This, when the office is so busy that they wind up staying late by a few hours EVERY night.
So, if anybody could spare her some energy, I'd appreciate it. I can't take in any more cats right now, I have enough trouble providing for the ones I have, and since I have spays coming up, the bills are going to be huge. I'm still trying to talk the family into a pair of kitties from the recue that I absolutely ADORE, but so far, no luck.

Idea.....could you possibly call the local TV station about this situation and see if people could take cats or make donations? Just wondering....Will light a candle too... just thinking possibly there IS something that could help..

Well, the TV thing might work under different circumstances, BUT, technically she has an illegal amount of cats there, and she can't really try to draw too much attention. *Anything over two pets is supposedly illegal here in the city limits.) We've had ads up in every pet store, vet's office, and most of the grocery stores for a couuple of months, even waiving the adoption fee. What makes it even worse is that she wound up with some more cats dumped on her, and she feels she can't turn them away, as they have Feline Leukemia. (The cat that started the whole rescue had Leukemia.) Three are just little babies, and one is an older male.
She also has guinea pigs, a bunny, two of her own dogs and a foster dog to make things worse. At this point we're just doing what we can, and hanging on by a thread. If we had any kind of space, we could offer her refuge here, but as it is, we literally have no room to even walk around with the critters we do have. Added to that is the fact that most of our house is carpeted, and several of her cats have IBD or similar problems, and the carpets would get very gross really fast. Plus, there is the added problem of not having a place to keep the leukemia cats seperate from the others. ::sigh::
We're working on a deal with a sanctuary to take the healthy cats, which would be wonderful, but that doesn' solve the problem of where she will live, and how she will care for the ones she has left. Heck, even euthanizing them would cost more than we can come up with (not to mention, euth'ing 60 cats really seems cruel). We are trying EVERYthing we can to avoid having them go to the shelter, because we kinow that many of them would have to be euth'd there.
Really, all that needs to happen to get things back on track is for her to get a decent paying job (and me too), and for her landlord/mortgage holder to work out a deal with her. We can probablyl figure out the rest from there, ya know?

Sending so much energy. I really hope that your friend finds the solution she needs, and that all of the animals find a good place to be.

there are times when i read a post that truly makes me sad, and this is one of those times. i am so sorry for your predicament, and i wish there was more i could do than just send energies and pray. however, i will beseech the gods to continue where i cannot. you have my prayers and thoughts.-seeker
