Last night there were a few kids on the sidewalk along my yard tormenting my dogs. They started yelling “shut up” and other such things at them. Naturally they didn’t stop barking cause the kids got them going. One of the kids threw a beer can at one of my dogs. The kids didn’t see my wife there smoking a cigarette. Naturally she let them have it. Luck for them I missed it putting my daughter to bed. I’d have made him eat the beer can.

This morning I let the dogs out like I do every morning and CJ didn’t come back in for breakfast. I went out to look for him and a five foot section of my fence had the boards kicked out. CJ’s a runner so he was long gone. We live three houses down from busy street 40mph posted but average is 70mph, and my dog has no danger sense. Luckily he went the other way toward the beach and a neighbor called us to let us know he was in their yard, both my dogs have their address and phone number on them.

My dog could have been killed. I did file a vandalism report with the police, just so the event was on file incase I crush some kid’s nose. I’m usually very mellow and you can’t get me angry, but I do get violent (but no rage in it, I am calm, just cruel) when my family is threatened. I once close lined a kid off his skate board as he passed me not knowing the dog he just kicked was mine. I am an instant retaliation person.

Well that was my little cry. I’m done now. Thanks for reading.

Violence doesn't fix anything, but to file charges for trespassing or harassment might do the trick. If you know where they live pay a visit to their parents and explain the situation. If all else fails let the cops deal with them :hugz:

I dont blame you. I had simular probs in the past and the cops were useless. They talked to the kids but basically there wasny much they could do unless you caught the kids in the act of doing physical damage!!! Ya right.
Anyhow, my BF at the time caught a kid and held him for the cops. It took the cops over an hour to come of course. My BF didnt hurt the kid but forcably held him and verbally scared the shit out of him.
The cops, when they showed up, were glad my BF did what he did. They actually told us they didnt have time to deal with small stuff like this...we lived in Milwaukee city at the time in the ghetto.
The cops told the kid to stay away from us because next time my BF might do more than just forcably hold him!! Then the cops left and the kid ran home.
We didnt have anymore probs after that, lucky for us.

But it can be a pain when its kids and to have your pets put in danger just because they are brats.

Hopefully you wont have to handle it yourself like we did.
Given the choice, we would of preferred the cops to handle it.

My animals are part of my family. If someone is old enough to throw beer cans at my old sweetheart, they are old enough to have the **** kicked outta them.

(just an opinion, I'm peaceful but I'm no pacifist)

I once had to tell someone that the quickest way for him to die was to hurt my dog. He left her alone after that. Violence doesn't fix anything, as Lady T said, but if someone hurts my kids I have no problem with being violent.

Tarbh, if you have more trouble you can set up a surveillance camera relatively inexpensively. My brother and his husband experienced some repeated acts of home vandalism, but when they installed the camera and posted a sign warning people of the camera, the vandalism stopped. It isn't on all the time, but is activated when the yard or driveway are entered. It was a good investment.

Since we’ve had this problem before, the kid with the skate board tormented Tippy so much that she is afraid of anyone on a skate board now, I’m thinking of putting in a second fence. There is a transition in my yard about 10 feet from the fence that runs along the side walk where the grass type stuff stops at a boarder and is then woodchips. A small decretive fence there would look ok and separate our front sitting area under the palm trees and the lawn part of the yard. I don’t think it would look outa place and would keep the dogs from getting near the side walk. Even though my dogs could easily jump any point of the fence they will respect the fence, with the exception of holes, any hole will be exploited.

The skate board kid finally stopped when one day he came by, while I was in the street, I said I want to show you something. I said “Tippy come!” since it was a command she hopped effortlessly over the fence and sat next to me. I told him “She can get out of the yard, I’m not sure if you realize that. One day you will push her too far and she will jump this fence and tear you apart.” He says the police would kill her. “Yes, that may be true but it wont make your face or neck grow back. If you lived you would be scared for life.”
