MM All
=)
I was just watching a thing on History Channel (I think hehe) about Gods and Goddesses, and I saw that the Greeks believed that all went to the House of Hades, and that they all became unconsious, and that all the really bad ppl went to the darker, lower level called Erebus, can someone clarify the Greek afterlife?
Going to a dark firey place doesn't sound like fun, hehe.

Try this. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hades) It's a good intro.
I love Wikipedia.

They basically had a heaven and a hell, the bad people went to Hades (hell, duh) and the good ones to the fields of heaven. Alysium, or something.

Thanks, that cleared up a lot. One question though, what would happen if you did not have the coins needed for passage?

Then you didn't get in. Charon doesn't take American Express.

LOL.
If you didn't get in, would you just wander around? Oh, that explains the hauntings...

O.o They'd only haunt if they believed the greek/roman myths but didn't have enough to pay......... most people don't believe the myths. or don't fall under greek/roman deities. and for some reason the pagans that do participate in greek/roman spirituality believe in reincarnation, from what i've seen. it confuses me, to say the least.

Well, sometimes in a religion their is the basics, the first information and then stories get added by different people, so some people believe some things and do not believe other things in a religion.

they paid charon a copper that they had in their mouth. How the coin gets there is uncertain, it may have been custom to bury them with a coin in the mouth, or it may just mystically appear.

Tatarous was the "Hell" and the Elysian Fields was the "Heaven" and I believe that coins covering the eyes of the dead was how they payed Charon.

sorry, but I think the coins on the eyes is another culture mythos. In greek mythos the coin is placed under the tongue, to be used to pay Charon the boatman. The link provided says that the coin is put there by loved ones/friends of the deceased.
