View Full Version : I Will Celebrate...

I've been reading stories and emails today from people who knew someone, lost someone, of tributes in the UK, Ireland; I've seen pictures of flags at half mast in Russia, Turkey, Germany, and I am just in awe. I sit here, shedding my first tears over this travesty, as I write this.

It's not that I haven't been horrified at this, or any less shocked over the loss of life, or the insanity of it all ... I tuned in the TV after someone online had made the comment about a plane hitting the World Trade Center, just in time to see the second plane hit the other tower via the live news feed on NBC. I just stood there in shock. Maybe it's just the shock wearing off, but I don't know. There's been so much death, so much destruction ... I have to look for something, some point of light in all this. I simply couldn't keep focusing on the negative aspects of it, or it would drive me mad. This is not intended to be cold-hearted. Quite the contrary.

I Will Celebrate

I Will Celebrate:

every man, woman, and child, who risked their lives to find others in the wreckage.

I Will Celebrate:

every man, woman and child, who were in the buildings when they were hit, or collapsed, and lived.

I Will Celebrate:

every man, woman, and child, who died - knowing that they gave joy and love in their lives (however long or short they may have been) to the people around them. They will be severely missed, and remembered lovingly.

I Will Celebrate:

every person who lost someone in this tragedy. Their memories will live on through you. This probably goes without saying, but pass along stories of them - let people know how much they meant to you, what kind of people they were - particularly to the children. Let their stories be told to countless generations. They should not be forgotten.

I Will Celebrate:

every person who set aside racial factors, political party lines, and whatnot, and came together during this tragedy, to help however they could.

I Will Celebrate:

every nation in the world that has set aside their dislike or snobbery of the U.S. and shown their respects, no only for those they may have lost, but also for the Americans who were lost. Your thoughtfulness in our time of tragedy is appreciated, and deeply moving.

I Will Celebrate:

the birth of every child born on 11 September 2001, across the world. In one of America's darkest hours, they signal hope. In all the death, there should be life to balance it out. Hold those children close and dear. Let them know that their birth is positive, rather than darkened by the events that happened that day.

I Will Celebrate:

Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, who rather than running to save his own life, when the Pentagon was hit, ran into the rubble to help people who were trapped, and find survivors. Thank you for showing more concern for your collegues, and perhaps even people you didn't even know, than for your own personal saftey.

I Will Celebrate:

Tom Burnett and the other passengers of United Flight 93, who called their loved ones, and then did everything they could to turn the tables on the terrorists, preventing the flight from reaching it's intended destination. Your heroism will be well remembered, and thanked.

I Will Celebrate:

hope, love, charity, unity, compassion. Throughout this dark event, people all over the world have come together, to stand together in unity. I don't think I can remember a time when this has happened before. Hopefully, it is a sign of good things to come in the world.
