Okay, there's a couple of threads going on here where we're all basically running loops around eachother since we're all coming from different definitions and backgrounds regarding these words. So, I put out the question, in your definition, what is a spell, vs. what is magick. How are they the same, how are they different, etc. I'm really curious.

I think a spell is a focus for our intent. It organizes our intentions.

Magick is our intent manifesting.

I personally think that magic(k) is the energy that is organized and focused by making and sending a spell out.

Hi all!
I would use a spell to make magick.A spell isn't the only way, just a way.A spell is like a ritual used to make magick. The magick is the energy, the spell is a way to raise it.

Very interesting replies! I actually have a different way of viewing magick and spells than most people do.

Performing Magick to me is the directing and focussing of universal energy to create a change...this can be anything as simple as typing on the computer, as you need to direct energy to do this and you are indeed creating a change, as my words are proof of, to wishing someone a good day, or just working on a purely energy level, as with spells.

Spells are a way of directing and focussing universal energy to create a change beyond the physical...okay, they can have physical results, but I generally do not have to do anything more specific than energy manipulation to acheive these ends. (Meaning my arms don't move, my nose doesn't twitch, etc...it's on an energy level.) Spells to me need not involve rituals, however to produce the results, but often do in my personal tradition, but I generally don't refer to these as spells, but as rituals.

So yes, they're almost interchangeable in my definition, which is why I posted the initial question.

IMHO....I don't think I necessiarly need a spell to perform magick, just something to focus on....for most people, it's just something to say....Like when I light a candle, I feel the need to say something....to define my intent. I would say that that was a spell. It's not the magick....I feel the magick is the energy filling the air, ready to set out and complete the spells bidding. It's what happens when it is no longer in my hands....
