I've been reading and reading about Herbal Magick, but I have not found any information pertaining to garden magick. That is, I would like to bless my gardens, specifically my herbal garden and my roses, to keep it free from harmful pests....like the rose attacking Japanese beetles.

What I usually do for spells is that I read a lot of different spells to get ideas to create my own.

I haven't been able to find anything in books or even online. Granted, I haven't searched online in a month.

I've been reading the "Herbal Alamanac" for ideas and "Herbal Wicca". Does anyone know of good books to read and websites pertaining to this?

BTW, I have consecrated the spaces with salt, but that was just to make sure all the plants took okay to the new dirt and stuff without dying.

I believe Cunningham has a book on herbs, but I don't know if that's just an encyclopaedia. There is the Green Witchcraft series by Ann Moura. And don't forget the herb forum here on MW. You can probably find all your answers there.

Oh man! I saw a book just the other day about planting your garden in certain ways and blessing it to create a magickal herb garden, SHOOT! Next time I run to that bookstore again I'll write down the name of it! But there is a book out there....I saw it.
Blessed Be!

I have a book in my library called The Enchanted Garden: Discovering and Enhancing the Magical Healing Properties in Your Garden.

It draws a lot upon the faeries of the garden. Maybe you could incorporate that into your spell.... asking the faeries to help keep the pests away... give them an offering...etc.

What kind of garden are you doing? I'm planning an organic garden with a variety of plants. An important thing to remember is that some pests are good for your garden.

earth, air, wind, and fire
don't let those critters raise my ire
mold or mildew
vertibrate or invertibrate
protect my garden
on every date

(ok... so I suck at rhyming...)

Charge stones (pick one with protective qualities, or ones that feel right from your garden) and place in each of the beds.

I found this page the other day: http://pookachild.com/in_the_garden.htm though it does have some words that I think are latin.. but I have no clue what they mean.

Good luck, and let us see pics in the spring!!!!

Thanks everyone for the references. =)

And yes, I do realize that some pests are good for gardens :goodgrief . However, if you live in the US you should realize that Japanese beetles do nothing but destroy plants including most herbs grown in zone 5.

Japanese beetles are horrible, I went around all last year picking them off one by one and then putting them in a big glass of soapy water, I did that everynight because I refused to use chemicals.
My favorite book on this subject is The Magical Garden by Sophia with Denny Sargent. It has so many spells and chants for such a little book and tons of info. You would like some info from the book feel free to PM me and Ill share it with you. Good luck!

Yeah, me too. =) My mom and I make a game of it, picking Jap beetles off each other's gardens. LOL

Thanks for the book suggestion. I've heard of that book but did not know how good it was. I just ordered it from amazon. Thanks!!

I hate Japanese beetles! They almost killed my roses last year!

Bud, blossom and bloom by Dorthy Morrison. That i think, was one of the best books I have. It tells you what plants are best grown together, different types of gardens...its awsome...now if only I had a back yard. :(
